Washington, 23, spent all of training camp with the Giants and was released during the final round of cuts. He accepted a two-week injury settlement after hurting his shoulder and is now free to sign with any team.
Last season he caught five passes for 52 yards and a touchdown.
I'm not sure how serious the Jets are about signing Washington, but at the very least this is an interesting wrinkle.
Might this spell trouble for Quincy Enunwa's status with the team? After seeing no targets against the Browns, Enunwa was targeted three times last night against the Colts and only caught one pass.
As Chan Gailey seems to prefer with his 2015 Jets offense, Washington is big (6'4" 214 pounds) has good speed (4.4 40 yard dash) and is known for his agility and burst. While he flashed in Giants camp a year ago, Washington fizzled out during his second time around with the Giants and it ended in his release on a team that is looking for answers at the receivers position.
More than likely, the Jets will need to fill some work on special teams with the potential return of Devin Smith to the lineup soon. Maybe the team is considering Washington as a core-teamer with some upside in the passing game?
