WR Quinton Patton has signed with the Jets, the team annnounced Thursday.
He had visited with the team this past weekend.
Last season, Patton recorded 37 catches for 408 yards with the 49ers.
The 2013 fourth-round pick has 73 career catches for 880 yards.
John Morton, the Jets' new offensive coordinator, spent time as Patton's wide receivers coach in San Francisco.
The Jets continue to do what rebuilding teams are supposed to do - they are accumulating as many young, talented players as they can find, and the rest will sort itself out.
They already have a bunch of good, young receivers, of course - Quincy Enunwa, Robby Anderson, amd Charone Peake for starters. But new offensive coordinator John Morton obviously saw something he liked in the 6-foot, 204-pount Patton when the two were together in San Francisco in 2013-14.
So it's less about his numbers (73 career catches, 37-408-0 in 14 starts last season) and more about the skills that Morton saw. And there's no real harm in adding another low-cost, low-risk young player to the mix as the Jets try to straighten their entire organization out.
