The Mets have been scouting relief pitchers on the Rockies and Dodgers, including?J.P. Howell, Paco Rodriguez and Adam Liberatore, according to LA reporter Mark Saxon?(March 26).

Previous Reports
Mets officials are confident they'll be able to acquire additional help in the bullpen if needed, the New York Post's Joel Sherman recently reported (March 25). However,?they may first wait?for?teams to put players on waivers the last week of March before making a move, according to beat reporter Adam Rubin?(March 23). The Mets are in the market for a left-handed?reliever?and continue to show?interest in Orioles LHP?Brian Matusz (NY Post, March 22).

The Orioles have an excess of pitching and?Logan Verrett?, who they selected from the Mets in the Rule V draft during the offseason. In the event?Verrett doesn't make their 25-man roster, he would go through waivers and then be optioned back to the Mets. If?Mets take Verrett back, they could keep him in Triple-A to provide depth or trade him back to the Orioles, possiky in a deal for Matusz, which would allow the Orioles to option Verrett to the minor leagues.

Verrett was a starter for the Mets in Triple-A Las Vegas last year, but has been used out of the bullpen this spring by the Orioles.

The Mets fielded plenty?of interest in pitcher Zach Wheeler in the offseason and rebuffed all attempts.

It wasn't because the Mets felt that the right-hander was untouchable, rather, it was the fact the Mets didn't feel the trade would go through.

The Mets knew that Wheeler's elbow?condition would likely scuttle any deal they would make (Sherman, March 22).?

Charley Casserly was deeply involved as a consultant in the hiring of Jets -- Mike Maccagnan as GM and Todd Bowles as coach -- but in the end, it was owner Woody Johnson's call (Costello, Jan. 17).

Casserly worked with Ron Wolf as consultant's after the Jets fired their GM in John Idzik and head coach Rex Ryan after the season.

?We didn?t make any decisions,? Casserly told the NY Post on Saturday. ?These were clearly Woody?s decisions. I don?t want that taken the wrong way. Our job was to give advice when asked. That?s what you do in that position. Woody was outstanding. Woody gave us latitude to ask anything in interviews. He listened to everything we had to say. He encouraged us to give him exactly what we thought. He made the decisions and I think he chose two outstanding candidates.?
