Vice President, Live Game and Long-Form Production

Position Overview:

The Vice President, Live Game and Long-Form Production will oversee production, personnel, budgets, and lead the creative vision for all SNY live game and long-form content. This role will supervise live game staff including Talent, Coordinating Producer, Producer, Production Coordinator, in addition to co-managing the Director of Graphics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee all in-house and third-party live game productions, including, but not limited to, Mets Baseball, UCONN Women’s Basketball, Men’s College Basketball, and Connecticut Ice.
  • Identify, secure, and oversee all live game production staff and Talent (including backfill bench) for Mets, UCONN, Connecticut Ice, and one-off productions.
  • Serve as the primary senior point of contact and liaison with live game On-Air Talent; providing feedback, managing expectations, negotiating agreements, and guiding the overall relationship with the network.
  • Establish, coordinate, and maintain standards for all in-house and third party-produced live and long-form original content.
  • Research and stay abreast of new technology and production methods that will allow SNY to maintain its leadership position in live game production, presentation, and efficiency.
  • Assign and maintain schedule for live game production Talent and staff.
  • Host or attend recurring SNY meetings with various departments such as Production, Sales, Marketing, Content, and Public Relations.
  • Conduct on-going one-on-one critique/feedback sessions with applicable Talent and Producers.
  • Oversee live remote game and original programming graphic design and creation of show theme music.
  • Lead production collaboration with the Sales team at the ideation phase and then oversee all sales enhancement executions for SNY-originated and third-party productions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with counterparts at peer networks to build consensus on production matters, stay abreast of relevant changes/improvements in the industry, and find partnership efficiencies.
  • Build strong relationships with key programming partners’ (including Mets, MLB, Jets, UCONN and Connecticut Ice colleges) front office, administration, coaches, etc. to ensure maximum cooperation, access, and communication.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal colleagues, including but not limited to the SVP of Content Development and Chief Revenue Officer.
  • Oversee live game and long-form linear TV production budgets; approve departmental and direct report expenses.
  • Maintain staff and freelance Talent contract status spreadsheets, paying particular attention to expiration and related trigger dates.
  • Manage live game production and talent upgrade appearance fees.
  • Coordinate and communicate daily with all pertinent departments to ensure proper broadcast execution.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in sports television production experience as an Executive/Coordinating Producer, Producer, or Director.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience managing a team of multiple direct reports with demonstrated success.
  • Previous experience managing on-air Talent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area of study preferred, or relevant work experience.
  • Strong production experience, including show and live event management and creation, ideally in a major market; significant experience and interest in baseball is preferred.
  • Must have strong knowledge of viewing habits and media consumption patterns and a great awareness of the latest trends in a changing media landscape.

Producer/Editor, Multi-Platform Promotions

Position Overview:

SNY is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to develop, produce, and edit innovative and breakthrough creative promos that reinforce the network’s brand of being the “Home of All Things New York Sports” on its linear and digital platforms. The Producer/Editor should have excellent copywriting, producing, and AVID editing skills, the ability to manage several projects, as well as a strong working knowledge of television production and post-production practices.

Job Duties:

  • Create promotional concepts that enforce SNY’s brand of being the “Home of All Things New York Sports” across all platforms, including conceptualization, copywriting, producing, and editing spots for on-air programming and digital assets.

  • Produce creative and unique posts for social media that promote SNY’s content and brand.

Director/Operator

Position Overview:

The Director/Operator position is a project-based role for prospective partnerships between SNY and outside clients. These partnerships will create very short digital segments throughout the day. The successful applicant will be responsible for the entire breadth of operational elements for these segments. Using Ross Overdrive automation, you will be responsible for directing, while also performing each of the crew functions. These would include coding audio for automation, studio set-up, lighting, camera operation and shading, & preparing mics. This applicant must always exhibit professionalism, a strong work ethic, and a ‘can do’ positive attitude. This is a full-time, project-based position that is expected to last at least one year.

Job Duties:

  • Using Ross Overdrive automation, the Director/Operator will code the rundown, operate the automation, and call the show.
  • Must be able to target, operate and shade robotic cameras, initiate lighting cues at various positions across different sets. Set-up, test and implement wireless/wired mics and IFBs.
  • This position will also likely be utilized for SNY’s linear studio programming providing back-up coding, countdowns, and other assistance to the primary Director during live shows.

Position Overview:

This position will require the candidate to edit video content for use in digital programs and platforms for outside clients, both long form and short form pieces. These elements generally are time sensitive and require an eye for detail and a quick hand, as well as creative input and element building. At times you will be expected to work on your own with little to no supervision. This is a full-time, project-based position that is expected to last at least one year.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Edit for 15-20 pieces of video content daily
  • Provide title cards and elements for digital and social departments using Photoshop
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Create graphics when needed in Avid, Photoshop

Qualifications:

Video Content Coordinator

Position Overview:

The Video Content Coordinator will play a major role regarding coordination between SNY’s Content production and Digital departments (Editorial, Video, & Social), while keeping a close eye on the website, video content, and social platforms. The ideal candidate is extremely detail oriented, has some experience in back-end development settings, and can showcase a proven track record of cross-team collaboration and execution in Digital news environments. Journalism and/or website infrastructure experience preferred. This is a full-time, project-based position that is expected to last at least one year.

Job Responsibilities:

Manages all video content deliveries, metadata, images on all SNY Digital Platforms (sny.tv, SNY app, YouTube, Yahoo Sports and others), to ensure best practices and standard operating procedures are followed.

  • Tracks and processes daily ingestion and encoding of all incoming video content into our video platforms.
  • Performs QA of all video deliveries, selects and crops still images to be used as thumbnails.
  • Uploads stills into online CMS and shares video ID with content team for publishing online.
  • Updates all metadata and custom fields before and after video content is published to reflect final titles, descriptions and programming types.
  • Creates and manages program objects allowing content to feed into our various platforms and to syndication partners.
  • Schedules live and end dates for short form video content.
  • Communicates details about new videos, content issues, and publishing information with internal teams.
  • Supports internal teams with any requests for player and preview links as well embed codes.
  • Audits video content to make sure metadata is correct and up to date.

Publishes video content on all SNY Digital platforms

  • Curates content for placement on SNY.tv, App and YouTube.
  • Coordinates with Editorial and Video Directors on placement and timing for publishing of assets on platforms.

Coordinates and communicates with internal and partner stakeholders

  • Supports procurement of scheduling, assets and metadata for all OTT, TVE, VOD, SVOD, EST and all other non-linear platforms.
  • Coordinates all workflow processes and implementations for distribution executions.
  • Coordinates and optimizes metadata and asset deliveries between internal teams for all platforms.
  • Audits video content on partner platforms to make sure it’s live and updates docs accordingly.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Communications, Journalism or a related field or equivalent work experience required

Staff Engineer

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for maintaining equipment & technical standards at a production and newsroom facility. This is a project-based position that is expected to last until May 2023.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support multiple daily live studio productions
  • Act as quality control for incoming/outgoing news & game feeds
  • Perform emergency & preventative maintenance on studio, control room, and newsroom equipment

Freelance Audio / A1 Operator

Job Duties:
  • Work with technical and news staff to satisfy production needs for live, taped and automated programming.
  • Familiarity with 5.1 surround sound, up mixing, down mixing and operation of associated support equipment.
  • Work creatively and collaboratively with Production and Operations management to establish sound production practices for the delivery of content within sports, news, and topical programming.
  • Become fully knowledgeable in all aspects of operation and basic maintenance of the production audio systems including but not limited to: audio console, RTS intercom system programming, audio server routing, RF microphones and IFBs as well as other audio or communication related support systems.
  • Perform daily set-up operations and continuously monitor audio levels from all sources across multiple studios to ensure consistent quality in accordance with established industry standards and guidelines.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Communications) or equivalent work experience required.

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. and set / strike studio gear.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with SSL audio boards, RTS intercom systems & ENCO audio servers a plus;
    Configuration knowledge of the RTS Adam Edit communication system preferred.

Freelance Content Supervisor

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This role will help facilitate the execution of content across SNY, working closely with the Coordinating Content Producer and Content Producer for SNY’s television shows. Additionally, this role will serve as a liaison to our digital Content Creators. This person should be an effective communicator and possess the ability to handle multiple projects at one time under tight deadlines.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise highlights cut by Associate Content Producers for Mets, Jets, UConn and SportsNite studio shows

  • Assign Associate Content Producers and Editors for nightly studio production

Freelance Content Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Freelance Content Coordinator is responsible for all communication and acquisition of content appearing on the network, website and social channels during their shift. As a Content Coordinator, this person will communicate daily with New York PR staffs and other media outlets to acquire content via Zoom, help schedule and share transmission info with crews out in the field and back at the studio. This person will serve as quality control to incoming feeds and liaison to share all content across platforms. This person should be an effective communicator and the ability to handle multiple projects at one time under tight deadlines.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain quality control of all incoming elements, including remote setups, streamed content, and taped field content of incoming content to all SNY platforms through Slack
  • Schedule Field Producers and Multi-Platform Photographer/Editors
  • Must understand all technical aspects of news content gathering, including via satellite, fiber, LiveU, TVU, FTP, internet pool, and mobile transfer. Responsible for communication of active feed paths to content staff

Internships

SNY offers internship placements in the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters. Departments may vary each semester, but they typically include most or all of the following: 

  • Content
  • Operations
  • Affiliate/Marketing/Programming
  • Accounting
  • IT
  • Sales

Interns, who must have completed their sophomore year in college, will be paid and may receive college credit if needed. The minimum GPA requirement for our internship program is a 3.0.

Interns will receive hands-on experience assisting in a wide range of the station's operations. Interns generally work approximately 20 hours per week, and may include nights and weekends.

Content

The Content group at SNY is responsible for the day-to-day planning and production of SNY's on-air and digital schedule. Interns will assist in the production of daily programs such as “Baseball Night in NY”, “Mets Pre Game”, etc., while also helping the SNY.tv Digital Media Staff in various production and marketing related initiatives including research, audio/video production, news gathering, editing content for the web site, generating traffic reports for analysis and assisting in the management of sales inventory, creating sales decks and campaign recaps.

Here are the skills required, along with internship obligations:

  • Strong interest in the web, mobile, social media, sports and television
    Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and creative skills
    Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; meet deadlines and work as part of a team while also being able to work independently in a fast paced environment
    Possess great organizational skills and has excellent track record for following through on projects
    Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    Screening/logging of games, press conferences, interviews and taped programs to prepare for editing
    Researching for graphic boards, creating on-air graphics, and assisting the ticker operators
    Assisting Associate Producers in the edit rooms
    Working on the production of “Baseball Night in NY", "Geico SportsNite” and Mets programming
    Preparing, copying and distributing programming information and scripts
    Doing detail work to procure footage from external sources
    Any other tasks needed to support the network's day-to-day operations

Candidates should be concentrating in communications, with an education and/or training in broadcasting. They should also have a strong interest in both digital and televised sports production. Proficiency in computers and typing is a must. They should also be familiar with the programs currently presented on SNY
Operations

*Internship will begin in March 2022 for Operations

SNY Operations Interns will have an opportunity to work in one or more of our locations; the office, our studio and remote events. While some interns are assigned to a main focus, all interns are rotated through each area at least once to see all aspects of the dept. This also allows them to focus on specific areas of interest that they have developed or develop while doing their internships. All SNY Operations Interns are requested to fill out a schedule and education plan which ensures that they are exposed to as many aspects as possible of the network. Interns will assist in a wide range of the station's operations and the responsibilities will include:

Operations office/studio:

  • Distributing and updating production documents, schedules, misc. paperwork
    Running errands to pick up supplies and materials for remotes
    Observing in the studio control room and in the studio setting to how the network produces live on air programming in conjunction with live news remotes
    Observing and meeting with other depts. by appt. (newsroom, programming, accounting, marketing, sales, traffic, etc.)
    Research locations, teams, towns for operations tactical planning
    Interface with all areas and levels of internal and external contacts, sr. management, talent and others in a professional manner
    Library Data Entry for our SNY Library System including taping, screening, organizing games/inventory of tapes for Mets Games
    Assist in planning and organization of annual crew BBQ

Operations remote (Mets, Brooklyn Cyclones, UConn basketball):

  • Light general office work, answering phones, faxing, running errands for the production staff, etc.
    Providing truck with Media/PR updates and team notes, line ups etc.
    Assisting roving reporter when necessary to help ease movement around stadium
    Observing in the truck and out in the field with roving reporter to see how the network produces live sports game coverage
    Fall interns get a chance to visit the Jets production team one week to observe how a game week is covered in from post Sunday game coverage thru to the Thursday night Jets programming

Affiliate, Marketing and Programming

The Affiliate/Marketing/Programming department will be hiring one FALL 2021 Intern. If interested, please be sure to indicate that you would like to be considered for Fall in your email. The Fall Internship will begin as soon as the candidate is hired and go through the end of January 2022.

Interns in the department will assist the Marketing/Programming Staff in various consumer marketing, affiliate marketing, public relations, on-air promotion, program planning, ratings research and website related tasks. Interns will be assigned on-going, daily responsibilities as well as stand-alone projects and will assist with various office and administrative duties. Interns will attend weekly department meetings and various project meetings throughout the semester. Requirements and skills are as follows:

Affiliate:

  • Assists with creating unique programming schedules as requested by affiliates
    Keeps up-to-date distributors channel information for internal documents as well as making sure affiliates websites promote SNY correctly
    Sends affiliates premiums and tickets as needed
    Create spreadsheets as needed to show year over year comparisons for affiliates (ticket use, incentive programs, marketing participation)
    Helps manage the premium closet and keep track of inventory

Marketing:

  • Assists the Marketing Staff with various consumer marketing tasks
    Reviews games to ensure drop-ins and promotions are executed
    Assists the on-air promotion department by cataloging videos
    Sends materials for trade partnerships including premiums and signage
    Creates and keeps up-to-date the calendar for all SNY trade partnerships including event dates and media schedules on SNY
    Assists marketing team by researching images for network creative around Mets and Jets partnership deliverables

Programming:

  • Assists in creating weekly contingency programming for live sports programming
    Screens various programming for quality control
    Assists in the creation of monthly schedule grids for VOD, Mets Fast Forward, Closed Captioning
    Helps work with Master Control on coordinating feed schedules
    Provides support in creation of schedules and rating analysis projects
    Inputs monthly schedules into Nielsen scheduling system

Accounting

Interns will have the opportunity to work with the Accounting Department and understand the purchasing and procurement cycle, as well as the employee expense reimbursement process and policies. They will work with Payroll in understanding the payroll cycle and will have the opportunity to assist with the Accounts Receivable process. The Accounting Intern will work closely with the Staff Accountant to complete ad hoc projects on a daily and weekly basis, including vendor payment reconciliations, expense account analysis, and other tasks based on departmental needs. Requirements and skills are as follows:

  • Ability to learn in a fast-paced environment
    Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal
    Ability to follow instructions
    Assist the Accounting Department with day-to-day workload
    Assist the Payroll Department with weekly processing
    Assist in day-to-day administrative duties
    Able to commit at least three days per week (5 hours/day)

Information Technology

Interns will have the opportunity to work with the IT Department and gain experience with the day-to-day management of IT infrastructure. Interns will learn some of the preparations of building a corporate network from the ground up, learn corporate IT security policies and procedures, and learn skills to provide excellent customer service through the use of technology.

Sales

SNY's Advertising and Sponsorship Sales department is seeking a highly motivated, sports business intern to join the team!

Responsibilities include:

Assisting Promotions Manager in developing, scheduling, and executing all promotions on-air and on-site
Assisting Promotions Manager in capturing clips and screen grabs of all on-air enhancements
Working with sales team managing current clients
Working with sales team to prospect new clients
Working with sales team to manage and execute special events at the SNY studio, around New York City, and/or at Citi Field
Assisting sales team in other daily administrative tasks including filing, labeling, mailing, etc.
Client interaction at Mets games and other events in New York City and/or at Citi Field

Interns can expect to gain experience in sales, sponsorship, marketing, advertising, promotions, media and the general sports industry.
