New Jersey Devils forward Jordin Tootoo has had wrist surgery and will miss the rest of the regular season.

Devils coach John Hynes disclosed on Friday that Tootoo had surgery on his right wrist to repair a tear in the sheath covering a tendon.

Tootoo has not played since Mar. 10. The Devils' enforcer had four goals and five assists in 66 games.

Wayne Simmonds and Nick Cousins scored 50 seconds apart in a four-goal third period and the Philadelphia Flyers got a big game from their special teams in posting a 6-3 victory over New Jersey on Tuesday, snapping the Devils' three-game winning streak.

Rookie defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere extended his point scoring streak to 13 games with a goal, Brayden Schenn had a goal and two assists andClaude Giroux added three assists as the Flyers won for the second time in seven games (2-3-2). Jakub Voracek and Ryan White also scored in the third period and Michal Neuvirth made 21 saves.

Jordin Tootoo has been fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment, the NHL announced.

"Tootoo was issued a Warning following an incident flagged by NHL Hockey Operations during NHL Game No. 75 at New York Rangers on Oct. 18. His second Citation, which triggered the $2,000 fine, was issued for an incident at 9:39 of the third period during NHL Game No. 583 against Detroit on Jan. 4," the league said.

The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

(AP) -- The Carolina Hurricanes hope a chance to rest allowed a sputtering offense the opportunity to recapture its prior form.

The New Jersey Devils look to keep breaking out of their scoring slump with another big offensive performance against the Hurricanes on Saturday night in Raleigh.

An offense that had been lethargic nearing the holiday break came to life in the Devils' most recent outing, as Kyle Palmieri, Jordin Tootoo and David Schlemko scored within a 2:12 span during the first period of Tuesday's 4-3 victory at Detroit. New Jersey (17-13-5) had managed five goals over its prior five outings and lost its previous three.

DETROIT (AP) Kyle Palmieri had a goal and an assist, Cory Schneider made 25 saves and the New Jersey Devils defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Jordin TootooDavid Schlemko and Sergey Kalinin also scored for the Devils. They had goals on three straight shots midway through the first period, ending Jimmy Howard's night, and the Red Wings never caught up.

Dylan LarkinMike Green and Riley Sheahan scored for Detroit.

New Jersey winger Jordin Tootoo said Vancouver's Alexandre Burrows made disparaging comments about his "personal life and family" during the Devils' 4-3 overtime victory Sunday night.

Tootoo, the first Inuit player to make it to the NHL, said Burrows made the comments while they were serving penalties in the second period.

Tootoo said the remarks were "classless and unacceptable in this day and age." He said he challenged Burrows to a fight and Burrows declined. Tootoo did fight Derek Dorsett.

Veteran forward Jordin Tootoo signed with the Devils Tuesday and was on the 23-man roster released by the club. (Devils, Oct. 7).

NJ.com also reported the team asked veteran Scott Gomez to remain with the club unsigned and assigned defenseman Peter Harrold to Albany. Rookie defenseman Damon Severson made the roster.

The Devils open the season with a four-game road trip, starting with the opener Thursday at Philadelphia. After games at Florida, Tampa Bay and Washington, the Devils' play their home opener Saturday Oct. 18 against San Jose.
