Jorge Posada apologized on Thursday for comments he made on Wednesday regarding Alex Rodriguez, PED use, and the Hall of Fame (CBS Sports, May 14).

"I tried to text him yesterday," Posada said of Rodriguez during an appearance on WFAN. "I feel like I was cornered into this answer. I know better. I was really caught off-guard.?He knows how I feel about him," Posada continued. "And I would like to ? if I caused him anything, I would like to apologize...I felt like the guy kept pushing towards that response, and I should have known better."

Posada had said in an interview on Wednesday morning with "CBS This Morning" that PED users, including former teammate Rodriguez, should be kept out of Cooperstown (CBS New York, May 13).

Willie Randolph will be honored this summer at Yankee Stadium along with Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte, though he said it "still hasn't sunk in," (Daily News, Feb. 16).

?You stop and think about it, it?s almost surreal,? Randolph said. ?It made me remember going back to being a kid growing up in Brownsville, Brooklyn.?How do you put it into words? It?s kinda crazy.?

The Yankees will honor Randolph with a plaque in Monument Park. The ceremony for the second baseman from 1976-88 will be part of Old-Timers' Day on June 20.

Retirement and election to the Hall of Fame hasn't taken all the edge off Pedro Martinez. The former Red Sox and Mets pitcher still isn't a fan of former Yankees catcher Jorge Posada, and hasn't forgiven him for one particular type of remark made in the heat of battle.

On Daily News Live Wednesday, Martinez told SNY's Jonas Schwartz that Posada was the Yankee he most preferred to hit with a pitch.

"He always seemed to have a real bad attitude towards me," said Martinez, who used to hold out his ears while gesturing at Posada, whom he admitted calling 'Dumbo.' "And he was so arrogant. More than the other guys. We competed, cleanly. I never tried to hit him or do anything. It was just competing.

In the Bergen Record, Bob Klapisch looks ahead to how C Jorge Posada and RHP Mariano Rivera will use the open market when negotiating with the Yankeess, before becoming free agents in the days after the World Series.

A rival General Manager, as quoted by Klapisch, regarding whether or not the Mets have a chance at signing Posada, said:

?The odds are pretty slim. [Posada] is loyal to [Derek] Jeter and that will help [the Yankees] a lot. But you never know. It'd be worth it for the Mets to least get in the game.?
