After showing an immense amount of promise under his rookie contract, Childress accepted a rich offer (3yrs/$20M) to play overseas in Athens, Greece for Olympiacos B.C. He left for Greece in 2008 and spent about two years there before returning to the NBA in 2010.
The Hawks maintained his rights after he departed for Greece, but traded him to the Phoenix Suns after he returned to the NBA. He spent the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 as a member of the Phoenix Suns, but last season, only managed 2.9ppg, 2.8rpg, and 1.0apg. The Suns elected to amnesty Childress on July 15, 2012, and he signed an unguaranteed deal with the Brooklyn Nets on September 13. He'll have to earn a roster spot when training camp opens in about two weeks.
