The Jets head to the bye week with a 3-7 record after a humiliating 41-10 loss to the Bills. Let's review three of the best and worst performances from Sunday's game.

Losers

QB Josh McCown

In his first start since last December, McCown was disappointingly erratic. He went just 17-for-34 with two interceptions, as he had five passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. Most of his 134 yards came in garbage time, as he averaged just four yards per attempt. Moreover, the majority of those yards came after the catch as the Jets ran an uninspiring horizontal passing offense.

Jets unhappy after Bills loss 00:00:55
Todd Bowles, Jamal Adams and other Jets players voice their disappointment after their blowout loss to the Buffalo Bill

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - A week ago the Jets threw away their playoff hopes with a loss in Miami, but at least they showed some fight in that game.

This week, against the horrible Buffalo Bills, the Jets didn't show up at all.

In what has to be one of the worst losses in a franchise history filled with terrible losses, the Jets absolutely embarrassed themselves in their 41-10 loss to the Bills on Sunday. They were down 31-0 in the first half to a team that had totaled 20 points in its last three games. They were outgained 186 yards to 1 - one! - in the first quarter and 313-68 by halftime.

THE GAME

The Jets (3-6) vs. Buffalo Bills (2-7) at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. ET.

THE WEATHER

It'll be a chilly day, with temperatures topping out in the mid-40s and moderate winds. It should be sunny, though.

WHAT IT MEANS

The Jets pretty much took any real meaning out of this game by losing to the Dolphins a week ago. A win only gets them back to 4-6 heading into their bye week, and they'd still need a miracle against a tough schedule after Thanksgiving to even sniff a shot at the playoffs. So all a win does is make them feel a little happier heading into their week off. But a loss? Whoa, would that turn things in a bad way against the Jets. This is an awful Bills team that even the Jets should crush, especially with veteran Josh McCown taking over at quarterback for a suddenly shaky Sam Darnold. If they lose this game, they could be headed to a season worse than last year, and there may be nothing that could save Todd Bowles' job.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles wouldn't completely rule out rookie QB Sam Darnold against the Bills. But their latest roster move says otherwise.

The Jets will activate QB Davis Webb from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano confirmed. And while the Jets haven't officially confirmed it yet, Webb is expected to be the team's backup.

Darnold was listed as doubtful on the Jets' injury report after being diagnosed with a foot strain earlier this week. Bowles told the media on Thursday that veteran QB Josh McCown will get the start for the Jets, with Darnold not expected to be 100 percent.

Bowles talks McCown 00:00:39
Todd Bowles talks about Josh McCown starting in place of Sam Darnold this Sunday vs the Bills

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - The Jets had no intentions of sitting Sam Darnold, no matter how much he's struggled over the last few weeks. They were going to let him play through his growing pains, to find his own way out, no matter what it did to their season.

Maybe that's the right way to do it. No doubt most NFL quarterbacks would argue that it is.

But given how lost he's looked on the field for the last three weeks, it couldn't hurt for Darnold to watch a little from the sidelines. So maybe this strained foot he suffered will turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

QB Sam Darnold (foot) was officially ruled doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bills, but there should be no concern for his 39-year-old backup stepping into his place.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles has no worried about Josh McCown filling in.

"He looks like a spring chicken right now," Bowles told reporters on Friday.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles told the media Thursday that veteran QB Josh McCown will replace rookie QB Sam Darnold as the starter against the Bills this Sunday.

And despite McCown last seeing game action during the preseason, WR Jermaine Kearse doesn't mind the change. In fact, he thinks the offense during practice looks a lot faster than it normally has this season.

Rookie QB Sam Darnold has been under center for the Jets since Week 1. But that streak may be coming to an end.

Darnold was diagnosed with a strained right foot, head coach Todd Bowles said on Wednesday after practice. The 21-year-old was seen walking in street clothes with a boot on his foot, and questions immediately rose as to whether or not the team's franchise quarterback will see his first inactive game against the Bills this week.

"It's just adversity," Darnold said. "Just gotta deal with it. Get better as soon as possible, get back on the field as soon as possible."

And Sunday might have been his worst performance yet, one so bad that maybe it's time he takes a temporary seat on the bench.

For the second straight season, the Jets are 3-3 heading into Week 7, but this feels different.

Just ask backup quarterback Josh McCown.

McCown, who was the Jets starting quarterback last season, had the team off to a surprising 3-2 start heading into Week 6 before they sputtered and finished the season 2-9 to close with a 5-11 record.

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive: FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Sam Darnold was not the Jets' first choice to be their new franchise quarterback, even if he turns out to be the right choice. Kirk Cousins was always Plan A.

Of course, their pursuit of the 30-year-old Cousins turned out exactly how they feared it would. They offered him a fully guaranteed, three-year, $90 million contract, and he still took less to sign with the Minnesota Vikings.

But what if Cousins had said yes?

There have been 30 starting quarterbacks that have bridged the 42-year gap between Joe Namath and Sam Darnold. The list is filled with busts, washed-up players, overrated prospects, injury-prone guys, and even a few quarterbacks that gave a reason for hope that they never quite lived up to in the end.

So it's understandable why some people are afraid. History is not on the Jets' side when it comes to their quarterback choices. And there are more than a few Jets fans out there who surely don't want to be fooled again.

But it's OK to relax. It's OK to smile. And it's OK to feel good about the direction of the franchise. Sam Darnold is the real thing...

The Jets have traded away Teddy Bridgewater, which shows their confidence in rookie QB Sam Darnold. And though it hasn't been made official yet, head coach Todd Bowles could be starting him Week 1 against the Lions on Monday NIght Football.

If that is the case, Darnold -- at the young age of 21 -- will be the youngest Week 1 starting quarterback since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, according to NFL research. Darnold will pass former Patriots QB Drew Bledsoe for the record by 106 days.

Though Josh McCown -- a veteran who had a career year with the Jets last year -- is still in the quarterbacks room, the Jets seem to like what they have seen from their No. 3 overall pick. Darnold has shown results in the stat sheet as well as the intangibles like scrambling out of the pocket, making throws on the run, and staying poised in tough situations...

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- It feels like everyone around the Jets organization knows a secret, but no one is allowed to say it. The truth is that Sam Darnold has done everything this summer that a starting quarterback normally does to get ready for Week 1, while the other two quarterbacks haven't.

So it would be a pretty big shock, and maybe a huge disappointment for Darnold, if the rookie isn't named the Jets' starting quarterback, right?

The Jets have signed QB John Wolford and waived/injured WR Lucky Whitehead, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.

With the final preseason game coming this Thursday against the Eagles, it was expected that the Jets pick up another quarterback with starters likely not playing any snaps.

Wolford, a Wake Forest product, was a part of the Jets' rookie minicamp this past spring. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound signal caller threw for 8,794 yards and 59 touchdowns during his four years with the Demon Deacons.

Many Jets fan want to know what is on the minds of head coach Todd Bowles and GM Mike Maccagnan when comes to their starting quarterback.

Well, fans are going to have to wait for that decision to happen as Bowles has noted he won't be making that call until after the preseason games are over. As for Maccagnan, though, he loves what he is seeing from his No. 3 overall pick in Sam Darnold so far in camp.

Speaking on WFAN's Boomer and Gio show, Maccagnan said he was "exceptionally impressed" by how Darnold has been progressing as he gets acclimated to the NFL. He also said Darnold has an "unflappable" presence when he's running the offense.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles may know in his head who he wants starting Week 1, but he's going to wait until these final preseason games before he makes a final decision.

Bowles got to see Darnold and Bridgewater in action on Thursday, giving him more tape to watch to determine what to do with his quarterbacks room. McCown didn't see any time in the bout against the Redskins, but that was expected as the Jets look to get Darnold and Bridgewater more reps.

"I have some ideas in my head, but I'll wait till the last two preseason games," Bowles told The Post's Greg Joyce on Saturday.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles said his decision to name a starting quarterback for Week 1 is "cloudy" through two preseason games.

Between the experienced Josh McCown, newcomer Teddy Bridgewater and rookie Sam Darnold, Bowles has two more preseason games to determine what they all bring to the table.

And if it was up to former Jets wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, he would pick Bridgewater over Darnold.

It wasn't the biggest storyline from Sunday's Jets-Redskins joint practice, given the epic brawl that broke out involving about 30 players. But Jets rookie QB Sam Darnold saw the heaviest workload with the first-team offense.

Darnold's competition -- Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater -- obviously saw their fair share of reps. But it was Darnold who was under center most of the time, which begs the question: Will he be the starter this Thursday when the two teams face off in Week 2 of the preseason?

"It's no indication," Bowles said after the joint practice Sunday. "Just getting him caught up on some things."

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Every moment on the field is like a dream for Teddy Bridgewater. He said "it gives me the chills" just thinking playing football again. Two years ago, the game was almost taken away from him forever, so he's grateful to be getting a second chance.

But even he doesn't know if that second chance will ultimately be with the Jets.

Currently in his 17th training camp, Jets QB Josh McCown has seen it all when it comes to quarterback battles. So, his answer to the question of why fellow quarterbacks Sam Darnold and Teddy Bridgewater getting more first-team reps isn't anything out of the ordinary.

"I'll defer to the coaches on that," McCown said after practice Monday when asked about his low rep total early on in camp. "Obviously just like we did last year, we understand the situation. This is my 17th training camp, and I've done this for a while, and we have a lot invested in the other two guys, and as far as them learning the offense and getting comfortable with things. It's good for our team for those guys to get as much work as they can. We feel really solid with our quarterback situation, and the room in general."

McCown has a large enough sample size to estimate what he is going to give the Jets. Last season, it just so happened to be a career year for the journeyman. He notched a career-high in yards (2,926), touchdowns (18), and completion percentage (67.3) in just 13 games before an injury ended his season.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- It was 16 years ago, but the memory is still fresh for Jets quarterback Josh McCown: the feeling of being overwhelmed in his first NFL preseason game.

"That first series it felt like they had 15 guys on the defense," McCown recalled on Monday. "There were people everywhere. I wasn't processing very good. At all."

It's a long way from the meeting rooms and practices of training camp to the first live action for NFL rookie, and that's especially true for quarterbacks. That's why the preseason games, which begin for the Jets at the Meadowlands on Friday night, will be so important for first-round pick Sam Darnold. Everything he's done so far has impressed everyone in the organization, in some cases beyond their expectations.

The Jets' quarterback battle has been the most-watched aspect of training camp thus far. So, it's no surprise that Vegas has already put their odds on who will win the starting job when camp breaks.

At the moment, veteran QB Josh McCown leads the pack at -130 on the money line. Following McCown is rookie QB Sam Darnold, but not by much at +140.

As for Teddy Bridgewater, he is the longshot at +800 to win the starting role. However, Bridgewater is considered the backup on the Jets' unofficial depth chart with Darnold as the third stringer.

Though rookie quarterback Sam Darnold missed the Jets' first full training camp practice on Friday because of his holdout, head coach Todd Bowles didn't sound overly concerned.

"Anytime you're not here you lose something," Bowles said. "It's been a day. Obviously, when he comes in we will get him caught up. Right now, we've got (89) other guys to worry about. ... He's not here, so we're coaching the other guys."

Bowles said Darnold's holdout is "part of the business" and said that without the No. 3 pick out of Southern California, the Jets will turn their attention to Josh McCownTeddy Bridgewater and the other quarterbacks on the roster.

The missing piece for the Jets finally seems to be in place, now that Sam Darnold has arrived as the young, franchise quarterback they've been dreaming of for decades. And that's what this summer is all about for the Jets: The growth of Darnold, and how quickly he'll really arrive.

That process begins on Thursday, when the full team is due to report to camp -- assuming Darnold has signed his rookie contract by then. Everything else around the Jets is window dressing, part of the slow, steady rebuilding effort with an eye on maybe contending next season.

Darnold, though, is the key. So how will he do, and will the rest of camp go for the Jets? Here are five bold predictions for what to expect between now and Opening Day...

The Jets quarterback position is always closely scrutinized, with controversies dreamed up even when the team is adamant none should exist. If the team says it's an open competition, everyone suspects they'll hand the job to their favorite. When they say their choice gives them the best chance to win, nobody agrees. Even if they name a starter and give him all the starter reps, the tendency is for everyone to assume they must be lying.

This year is different though. There's a real competition, drawing justified attention on a local and national level because it's completely wide open.

EA Sports released its highly-anticipated Madden NFL 19 ratings on Tuesday, and Jets fans won't be happy to see where their team landed on the list.

Gang Green came in dead last among all 32 NFL teams with a 72 overall rating. The ratings do change based off team performance throughout the year.

The highest-rated player on the team is S Jamal Adams, who is coming off a stellar rookie season. He has an 86 overall rating, which is 11th among qualifying safeties. Wide receiver Robby Anderson and DE Leonard Williams both have 84 overall ratings while Jermaine Kearse (83) and Steve McClendon (83) round out the top five.

Jets quarterback Josh McCown knows he's not New York's long-term solution under center, but he believes No. 3 pick Sam Darnold is rightfully the heir.

"With Sam, we have the right guy," McCown said on an interview with Sirius XM over the weekend. "He's wired the right way, he loves the game, he asks the right questions and he's willing to work … That's the foundation, you have to have that," McCown said.

The Jets traded three second-round picks to move up three spots from No. 6 to No. 3, where the USC quarterback ultimately fell to them. Darnold has impressed several people early on, including offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, who said Darnold has handled everything the team has thrown at him so far.

A lot will change between mid-June and September 10th, the day of the Jets season opener, but if they were to play that week one game against the Lions tomorrow, Todd Bowles knows who his starting quarterback would be: Josh McCown.

Bowles also confirmed that Teddy Bridgewater is the current backup, leaving rookie Sam Darnold as the third-string. But all three will have ample time during training camp to change his mind, when "a lot of things count."

"Josh will start come training camp and we will see what happens at the end of training camp," Bowles said after minicamp...

SNY captures the highlights, routes and deep throws at New York Jets minicamp on Thursday.

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive: The Jets are heaping praise on the shoulders of their prized rookie quarterback, but to them it's more than just dreamy hype. They're not just trying to sell everyone on the promise of Sam Darnold. They believe it. In fact, so far he's been even better than they expected.

That's why he has "a real chance" to be the opening day starter, according to a team source.

The 21-year-old Darnold has been that good since the Jets took him with the third overall pick in the NFL Draft. They've been giving him regular first-team reps throughout the spring and through this week's three-day mini-camp. And given how well he's handled them, this summer he can expect even more.

Darnold impresses at Jets camp 00:03:04
Jets offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates breaks down the performance of rookie QB Sam Darnold at the team's minicamp on Wednesday.

Jets QB Sam Darnold may be a rookie, but his new team isn't treating him like one.

The No. 3 overall pick hasn't been eased into his new role with the Jets, but rather, the team is throwing everything they can at him. Offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates said the entire playbook has been thrown his way during the team's three-day mandatory minicamp.

The reason? Bates says that's how you see what Darnold can truly handle.

With all NFL talk revolving around the new national anthem policy, Jets QB Josh McCown wants people to focus on the work behind the scenes that doesn't get as much recognition.

McCown, who is a member of the Players' Coalition, has been a big supporter and advocate for social justice reform. For one, he was one of a few Jets members that signed a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other officials calling for bail reform in the country.

It is work like that letter that McCown wishes got more attention than the anthem policy...

The Jets are continuing to try and impact the community, as Jets CEO Christopher Johnson, along with QB Josh McCown, LT Kelvin Beachum and former Jets LB Demario Davis, sent a letter to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo calling for bail reform.

The letter was not only addressed to Cuomo, but also to the speaker of the house and the senate president. It brings up several points that the Jets hope lawmakers will take into account.

Some of the points raised are...

Do the Jets have three good QBs? 00:01:36
Dan Graca and Jon Hein debate over the legitimacy of coach Todd Bowles' claim that the Jets have three good quarterbacks on their roster.

The Jets took the field for their fourth OTA on Tuesday, and the biggest takeaway was Sam Darnold taking the most reps under center with the first team.

But head coach Todd Bowles warns not to dive deep into that storyline. He made sure to note that this has been done in the past with rookies on both sides of the ball.

"We have thrown rookies in in the past with the starters," Bowles said after practice. "The defenisve guys have done that as well. As the reps get up there, you put teams in with Josh (McCown) and Teddy takes turns with the first team, second team and third team. Sam took some today. It is nothing to read into...

When the Jets drafted QB Sam Darnold, it appeared inevitable that their former second-rounder, QB Christian Hackenberg, was the odd man out with four quarterbacks on the roster.

That is why Jets fans probably weren't surprised to hear Hackenberg was traded to the Raiders Monday for a 2019 conditional seventh-round draft pick. And they also shouldn't be surprised to hear head coach Todd Bowles' reasoning on the matter as well.

"We have three quarterbacks. Obviously, we drafted Sam in the first. We like Teddy (Bridgewater). We like Josh (McCown). We just had one too many to get all of them reps, so we held him out today just because we had things in the works in case something happened," Bowles said after the team's first OTA on Tuesday. "So we just wanted to go with the three quarterbacks that we have and let these guys battle it out."
