Update: the Brewers have claimed Josh Stinson.

Brew Crew Ball looks at his ugly numbers and writes, "To be honest, I'm not sure what led the?Brewers?to be interested in this guy. I'm assuming he has options remaining and will start the year with Huntsville or Nashville."

Josh Stinson- 8/25/11 vs. Altoona: 1 IP, 1 hit (HR), er, 2 k.

September 1st is upon us, and that means Major League rosters can expand to 40 players.? With the news that the Mets have added Josh Satin and Josh Stinson to the roster, let?s take a look at Mr. Stinson as I got a first-hand look at him during my trip to Binghamton last week.

Stinson flopped as as starter in Buffalo to begin the season, but found some success in the double-A bullpen. ?He's been throwing 94-95 mph with a slider as his major secondary pitch. ?Hey, cheap, hard-throwing relievers equals more money for Jose Reyes.

Altoona Curve 5, @ Binghamton Mets 4

The Binghamton Mets had their 7-game winning streak snapped by the Altoona Curve by the score of 5-4.? Altoona center-fielder Starling Marte launched an opposite field homerun to lead off the top of the ninth off of B-Mets reliever Josh Stinson, to break the 4-4 tie.

Jeurys Familia pitched five erratic innings, but showed flashes of dominance at times.? He gave up four runs on seven hits.? Familia also walked two, tossed two wild pitches, hit a batter, and struck out four.? I spoke with Familia following the game, and he told me he is completely healthy after missing nearly a month in July.

This is Matt Harvey, and he is really good: 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. ?In his last seven starts in AA: 39 IP, 33 H, 12 R, 12 ER, 1 HR, 11 BB, 45 K, 2.77 ERA with an opponents' batting average of .229 and K/BB of 4.1. ?He's putting himself comfortably in line to start 2012 in AAA and assuming all goes smoothly, a MLB debut sometime next summer.

On Saturday, the Bingamton Mets played the Portland Sea Dogs in a special minor-league game - the game was in Fenway Park as part of Boston's annual special "Futures at Fenway" event.

Why does this concern us?? Well, just like in the MLB Futures Game, the Futures at Fenway games are played with Pitchf/x, the pitch-tracking camera system that tracks every pitch thrown in the major leagues, TURNED ON.? The data from these games is publically available for anyone to look at, just like the data from normal MLB games.? Which gives us a nice extra look at the pitches of the BMet pitchers who pitched in the eleven inning game.

Five Met Pitchers pitched in the game: Collin McHugh went 6 effective innings, Ricky Brooks then pitched two poor innings, Rhiner Cruz pitched the 9th and 10th innings, Eric Turgeon got the first two outs of the 11th inning but ran into trouble - giving up two runs, and Josh Stinson struck out the final batter of the game.? This post will examine the pitches of the two of those five pitchers: Collin McHugh and Josh Stinson.

Juan Lagares is hot. ?He was 3-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer and is now hitting .407/.424/.556 in 19 games in AA. ?Actually, he's basically the same player he was in the Florida State League, but he's been running a ?.463 BABIP for three weeks.

Tobi Stoner pitched two-hit ball over seven innings, but Josh Stinson could not finish the deal, allowing three runs on four hits in the eighth. ?Stoner allowed just two singles and an unearned run while walking three and striking out four.

The B-Mets took the lead in the top of the eighth by a Reese Havens (1-3, RBI, BB) single, plating Jon Malo.

Lets get to part four of my mid-season review of my pre-season Top 41 Prospects. ?It strikes me that this section has a funny mix of the wildly unproven (Matz and Morris) and then low-ceiling guys close to the big leagues, none of whom worked out yet.

Part 3 on players ranked 26-30 is here. ?Part 2 on players originally ranked 31-36 is?here.?Part 1 on players originally ranked 36-41 is?here. ??Each player?s name links back to his original scouting report from before the 2011 season.

Friday: @ Norfolk Tides (BAL) 9, Buffalo Bisons 0Saturday: @ Norfolk Tides 11, Buffalo Bisons 3Sunday: Buffalo Bisons 16, @ Norfolk Tides 2 (8.5 innings)Sunday's Blowout

You want to talk about the offensive uprising Sunday? Sure. The Bisons' scored a season-high 16 runs. Half of the run scorers for Buffalo reached via nine walks issued by Norfolk.

LF Nick Evans was 3-5 with a double and 5 RBI. ?Evans (pictured) has hit safely in each of his four games with the Bisons since returning to Buffalo after he cleared waivers following being designated for assignment, going 6-14 (.429) with three doubles. ?He has a funny-looking eight game hitting streak going since he had hit safely in his last four games with the Bisons in May before he was called up to the Mets.

With two outs in the top of the eighth inning and the Bisons leading 3-2, Bobby Parnell was summoned to pitch to Yankees top prospect Jesus Montero. ?Montero took a 0-1 hanging slider deep over the right-center field wall for a go-ahead three-run home run. Josh Stinson (pictured)was in line for the victory before the Montero blast. ?Stinson's 7 2/3 IP, 3 hits, 2 er, 0 bb, 6k performance was his best since joining the Bisons.

Val Pascucci (1-4, HR (2), RBI) hit his second home run of the season for the Bisons. ?Michael Fischer (2-4, 2B, RBI) and Nick Evans (2-4) each had multi-hit games.

There was a flurry of Mets minor news over the last couple of days.? With official rosters trickling in, we can now form rotations and lineups based on who is going where.? Here are some of the most newsworthy notes:

  • Josh Stinson (pictured), who many thought would be headed to AAA, will get the ball on opening day for the Binghamton Mets.
  • Rounding out the rest of the B-Mets rotation behind Stinson will be Mark Cohoon, Brad Holt, Robert Carson, and Brandon Moore.
  • B-Mets manager Wally Backman says Eric Campbell will hit third and Josh Satin will play second base and bat fourth.
  • Jeurys Familia apparently will be headed back to St. Lucie (A+), instead of moving up to Binghamton.
  • With news that Satin will be the B-Mets starting second baseman, it reveals that Reese Havens, who would be slated to Binghamton, is not healthy enough to start the season.

Multiple beat writers announced that the Mets will send LHP Robert Carson, RHP Josh Stinson, C Kai Gronauer and 2B Jordanny Valdespin to the Arizona Fall League this year.? That's a pretty inexperienced group with very, very little success at AA.

- I touched on the 20-year old Carson (1-6, 8.74) earlier on Tuesday.? Sure, he's been sitting in the low 90s and touching 94, but the 20-year old has been getting torched regularly in AA.

- The 22-year old Stinson was Binghamton's best starter in the season's first half and left AA with a 9-3 record and a 4.24 ERA and 68 strikeouts against 50 walks in 110.1 IP.

A+: St. Lucie Mets 9, Charlotte Stone Crabs 2Jeurys Familia struck out 12 in 6.2 innings to earn his fourth win.? He gave up two runs on five hits and four walks.? In his last three starts, Familia has fanned 30 and walked six in 20.1 IP.

19-year old SS Wilmer Flores (.304/.321/.429) doubled for the third straight night, going 2-4.

Alongside top prospects Ike Davis, Jenrry Mejia and Ike Davis, the Mets also sent unheralded 21-year old RHP Josh Stinson to the Arizona Fall League.? After winning the 2006 Sterling Award for the Gulf Coast League, Stinson put up a pair of unremarkable seasons in ?07 and ?08 for Savannah.? However, moved to the bullpen fulltime in 2009, the sturdily built 6?4? Stinson flourished.

He was 2-2 in 42.1 IP with Savannah with 49 strikeouts against just ten walks with the Gnats, an impressive k/rate of 10.4 with a K/BB of 4.9.? In St. Lucie, he was 3-1 with six saves with a 1.98 ERA.? His strikeout rate declined slightly down to 8.7 k/9 while his walk rate jumped to 4.7 BB/9.

Stinson, credits former GCL Mets Pitching Coach Rob Ellis for teaching him a new trick, that made all the difference:

In Saturday?s game, the Honolulu Sharks pounded Yankees 2007 first rounder Andrew Brackman for seven runs in 2.1 IP in the massive righty?s professional debut. C Jordan Abruzzo was 1-4 with an RBI and 2B Greg Veloz was 1-4 with a double. Josh Stinson gave up two unearned runs in three innings, fanning two without walking a batter for the win. Junior Guerra struck out four in two innings (good) but also gave up two runs on three hits (not so good) without giving up a walk (good). LHP sidewinder Roy Merritt fanned four more batters in his two frames.
