As I stated in my game prediction, there was too much on the line for Atlanta when they welcomed the Giants into the George Dome this afternoon.

The Falcons, now 7-0 in their own friendly confines, proved that with a shutout of the defending Super Bowl champions.

On the defensive side of the ball, Big Blue had no way of containing the Falcons multifaceted attack. Atlanta dominated in every possible aspect in this match-up.

Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell won't officially rule out safety Kenny Phillips for Sunday's contest in Atlanta. Nor would he hint as to what Prince Amukara's status is.

It's a next man up mentality for Big Blue. And since a number of role players have played well in the absence of the starters, Fewell is confident his defense will show up in a big way on Sunday.

"Consistency is always the issue. Most of the time, our guys are pretty good about trying to get on the field," Fewell said. "But you do miss the consistency in trying to put together a plan that includes people that you hope will be there on game day vs. people that may be there on game day."

Earlier this year, Falcons wide receiver Roddy White took a shot at Victor Cruz when he called the Giants wide receiver ... a bit soft.

White went on to call himself and Julio Jones to best receiving tandem in the National Football League.

Fast forward about three months and these two receiver duos are set to face off (of course, not against each other) on the same field this Sunday.

In an interview with the NFL Network, Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White was asked whether he and Julio Jones were a better tandem than the Giants' Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.

White, who does not have a reputation to be much of a trash-talker, used the opportunity to nudge Cruz.

"?Victor Cruz is a lot more of a slot receiver; the big boys play on the outside,? White said.

As the first ever playoff game in MetLife Stadium draws nearer, comparisons are swirling regarding the 2011 squad?s resemblance to the World Champion 2007 Giants team. For the most part, I too can see the resemblance.

Just like in the summer of ?07, the Giants weren?t expected to make much noise this season. After making quick free agent splashes with top UDFA Mark Herzlich and C David Baas, Big Blue found itself sitting idly by as other teams stole headlines and marquee names.

GM Jerry Reese was under serious fire before a single preseason snap was played. Two of Eli?s top targets, Steve Smith and Kevin Boss, were allowed to quietly walk out the door and in one case into the arms of the franchise?s most hated rival. Ahmad Bradshaw too was almost not retained, but a pay cut taken by Brandon Jacobs led to his return.
