Now Commenting On:

The idea of can it get any worse seems like the worst cliche in the world right now if you're a Knicks fan. Every night feels like the bottom and while you'd like to say it can't get any worse, it seems to each and every night. Last night, one year after Stephen Curry put up 54 points inside the Garden, he recorded his 4th career triple-double and led the Warriors to a convincing win over the Knicks.

A loss to a team like the Warriors shouldn't come as a surprise. After all, they are one of the NBA's best teams, just 3.5 games out of first place in the Pacific Conference and a sure fire playoff team. Losing to the Warriors isn't the surprise. The complete lack of fight is more alarming. So is the complete defensive breakdown that we've seen throughout this season.

Carmelo Anthony had this to say about the teams defensive effort. "Those are things we can correct...I don't think it's about heart...we just have to commit ourselves on that end." The heart that he is referencing came in response to what J.R. Smith told the media just a few minutes before. "It’s not a mental thing, it’s a heart thing" Smith lamented, hanging his head after the brutal loss.

What was scary on a night like this was how hard Carmelo Anthony worked to try and win a game that they were completely outmatched in, and how ineffective the rest of the team was in supporting him. Anthony led the way with 22 points and Tim Hardaway Jr. and J.R. Smith added 22 and 17 points respectively. After those three, the rest of the team failed to break double digits.

The teams demeanor on the court was just as bad as the attitude in the locker room after the game. Tyson Chandler got into it repeatedly with Marreese Speights and was eventually ejected from the game. His attitude towards Speights told the story. He got pushed around and instead of responding by playing harder and hitting shots, he responded by getting in Speights' ear and eventually heading to the locker room early.

In the end it was a loss. A single loss to go along with the other 4 losses that came directly before it. The Knicks are struggling and there is no end in sight.
