The newest member of the Nets, Paul Pierce, proclaimed his hatred for the Knicks has grown since relocating to Brooklyn. Knicks guard Raymond Felton laughed off Pierce's comments, apparently following suit of the NBA's mandate to end this intercity rivalry.
That lasted ... all of a week.
At the beginning of the month, J.R. Smith took a jab at Pierce. According to an ESPN New York report, Smith called the former Boston Celtics star "bitter" about being traded, and that he "he's going to have to pay" for his comments earlier this summer.
"I just look at (Pierce) as a bitter person just getting out of Boston. He doesn't really know what New York is all about. He's been playing in Boston his whole career," Smith told ESPN New York. "He just knows, just know that his words have consequences and he's going to have to pay for them."
Finally, Pierce has responded.
When told of what Smith had to say about him, Pierce was brief and to the point.
"Who? Who" Pierce repeated.
Well, if I may, who is referring to Smith, the reigning NBA Sixth Man of the Year. But that's just me going out on a limb.
