Don't look now but your New York Knicks are in the top 15 in total offensive AND defensive ratings. We've talked about this over the past year or so and when you watched the playoffs last year you saw the most successful teams have both of those categories in and around the top 5. The Mavericks were 8th in both categories throughout the course of the regular season and improved during the playoffs.
Clearly, Tyson Chandler helps the defensive stats basically singlehandedly, but it's his offense that is really critical to the Knicks success...at least thus far. He's shooting a ridiculous 73% from the field and is averaging 14ppg during this 3-game winning streak.
If the Knicks can continue to get this type of contribution and get timely outside shooting along with great play from Melo and Stoudemire, look for the offense to climb into the top 10 in the league in terms of total rating. We've talked about this for a while now, but the key to total offense is balanced contributions and ball movement, two things that the Knicks haven't done consistently well yet.
