Madison Square Garden executive chairman James Dolan donated $300,000 to Donald Trump's campaign, Stefan Bondy of the Daily News reports. The pledge was made to the fundraising committee Trump Victory less than two months prior to the election.
When reached for comment, an MSG spokesman issued a statement saying that, "Mr. Dolan's contributions are a matter of public record."
While it's not unusual for team owners to financially support candidates for public office, Dolan's support of Trump is in stark contrast to what many players and coaches around the NBA think about the president.
According to public records, Dolan also contributed to committees of former GOP presidential candidates Mitt Romney and John McCain as well as for Democratic nominee John Kerry. However, the combined donations do not come close to matching the $300,000 Dolan pledged to Trump.
Orlando Magic owner Richard DeVos, the father-in-law of recently appointed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, also pledged $70,000 to the Trump Victory committee.
