It didn't take Enes Kanter long to endear himself to his new locker room and new fans after being traded to the Knicks prior to the season. One person who's not surprised is Kanter's former coach, Billy Donovan.
Donovan was asked about his former backup center and was quick to speak effusively of Kanter.
"He made a huge impact for us, too,'' Donovan told Marc Berman of NY Post. "He's a great teammate and competitive guy. He really buys into his teammates. I'm not surprised by it at all. I don't know if Kanter was in a leadership role for us at that time, but he was a great connector. A great relationship with guys on the team. Great relationship with Steve Adams."
This season, Kanter is averaging 13.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while being one of the leaders on the overachieving Knicks.
"He's a guy who connects people, connects the locker room," Donovan said. "He keeps the team together and embraces his teammates.''
Donovan, Carmelo Anthony and the Thunder play Kanter and the Knicks on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
