Hernangomez, 22, is averaging 6.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 48 games this season.
The Rising Stars Challenge takes place this Friday night in New Orleans.
The All-Star Game takes place on Sunday night.
This is a very well deserved honor, especially given how Hernangomez has played as of late. When granted substantial playing time, the big man flirts with double-doubles rather seamlessly. He's really strong on the boards and is adjusting to the NBA game in a way that allows him to be effective on offense. Hernangomez can already force his way inside and be physical to cash in underneath the basket. It's the development of his mid-range game that has been refreshing.
It's only fitting that the young gun joins Porzingis in New Orleans. Through a season full of twists and turns, the duo has been a constant presence of positivity. Together, they have an opportunity to help make the Knicks a contender in the years to come. The future will be bright, if the organization stays the course.
Hernangomez is still coming into his own. He's getting used to the rigorous NBA schedule, coupled with playing meaningful minutes night after night. Such a selection is indicative of the progress he's making.
