James Dolan announced on Wednesday night that MSG is considering branching off the Knicks and Rangers from the entertainment side of the company.

The CEO of the Madison Square Garden Company is attempting to create a direction for the sale of the Knicks, Rangers and Liberty.

In 2017, Leslie Alexander offered up the sale of the Houston Rockets. According to NBA.com, the Rockets were sold for reportedly $2.2 billion. The Knicks are expected to sell for more than this which would be an NBA record.

Dolan purchased the three teams in 1999 and has won zero championships since the purchase. Dolan said in a statement, "We believe this proposed transaction would provide each company with enhanced strategic flexibility, its own defined business focus and clear investment characteristics."
