James Harden had high praise for RJ Barrett after the Knicks' win over Houston on Monday.
"Aggressive. I like it, especially as a rookie. Not timid at all," Harden said after Barrett scored 27 points against the Rockets. "When your aggressive and confident in your game, you look good out there. Long as he continues to build his confidence, keep being aggressive, and get the opportunity, which he will, he'll be great."
Barrett hadn't seen Harden's comments the day after the game, but he certainly appreciated the sentiment.
"I've just been watching him and how he plays. And how a lot of guys play," Barrett said after Tuesday's practice. "Picking your spots and knowing when to be aggressive and knowing when to pass, so it's great to have somebody like that say something."
In his last three games, Barrett is averaging 14 points on 56 percent shooting, knocking down 46 percent of his 3-point attempts in that span. He's also handing out 4.3 assists over the last three games.
Mike Miller was asked about Barrett's play on Tuesday. To a certain degree, he chalks it up to Barrett getting fully healthy following his ankle injury last month.
"I think he's growing as you would expect him to grow with the work that he's put in, with the talent that he has," Miller said. "I think the big thing now is he's just feeling so much better. When he came back it probably took him five games or so to kind of get where he was feeling more like himself, doing the things that he does. I think we were seeing prior to the injury a big jump in his production and more importantly his efficiency in doing those things."
HARKLESS IMPRESSING MILLER
Moe Harkless had 11 points and six rebounds in 30 minutes against the Rockets. He also defended Harden well for significant stretches of the game.
Miller praised the veteran, obtained from the Clippers in the Marcus Morris trade, for his versatility.
"As we've had a chance to have Moe with us more and it's been more game situations than practices, and really seeing a guy in the practice gym, he does a lot of things," Miller said. "People use the term versatility a lot but when I watch the games, and then I go back and I watch in on video again, I see more things that he did that maybe I didn't even notice. He's had an impact on our team. Some of it has even been subtle. You have to watch it (closely) to see, 'That's how that happened.' He made a cut that created that pass and that shot. Or, 'he started it with his defense.' He's been doing a lot of things for us."
