Knicks new head coach David Fizdale is wasting no time putting together his coaching staff in New York.
Fizdale is expected to bring a former colleague in Keith Smart to the Knicks next season as an assistant coach, according to The Post's Marc Berman.
Smart was an assistant coach along with Fizdale during their time in Miami together, and most recently, Smart was brought to the Grizzlies when Fizdale was awarded the head coaching job in 2016. Smart stayed with the Grizzlies this past season, even though Fizdale was fired just 19 games into the year.
The 53-year-old has head coaching experience as he spent two seasons with the Sacramento Kings (2011-13), and before, saw an interim stint with the Cavaliers during the 2002-03 season and a season with the Warriors in 2010. He owned a 93-170 record.
Other than Smart, another Grizzlies assistant in Nick Van Exel could join Fizdale's staff as well as former Knicks coach Mike Woodson, who said he would join if asked. He is currently a Clippers assistant.
