Now Commenting On:

What a journey it's been for Iman Shumpert this season, first being named as trade bait to get shipped out of New York to now being one of the Knicks' most valuable players of late.

So it's no shocker that Shumpert, given his January surge and a career-high 27 points against the San Antonio Spurs, is being named this week's Knicks Blog Player of the Week.

Shump has averaged 16. 8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game over the past four games, while the Knicks have went 3-1, with wins over contenders San Antonio and Dallas.

One factor in Shump's game that has been driving his success of late has been his red-hot 3-point shooting. Against the Spurs and Rockets, he went 12-for-14 from the perimeter. That stat has tailed off of late, though, as he's attempted seven 3s in the past two contests, only connecting with one.

Shump's 67 points over the past four games should not be taken lighty. It took him nine games to reach the 67-point mark on the season.

Whether or not Shumpert's stellar play continues remains a question, but there's no doubt that when he is able to contribute offensively and lend a hand on the boards the Knicks are better off. No-brainer, obviously. Perhaps confidence will play a factor, as we see that when he attempted 13 and 14 shot-attempts against San Antonio and Houston, both he and the team fared better.
