The Knicks were just pathetic in every sense of the word tonight. They couldn't score. They were sloppy. They turned the ball over. Their defense was putrid. It got so bad that Trevor Booker looked like he was on the Globetrotters playing the Generals in the fourth quarter. Walt Frazier said it best when he said you don't want to show the players the tape of this game.
The only positive to take away from the game is that Hernangomez had a double-double. Everything else was ugly. They turned the ball over an alarming 24 times. They gave up 117 points. They gave up 115 points to the Nets in their preseason opener. This is the same Nets team that is projected to win fewer games than the Knicks are. The Knicks showed no heart and no life tonight against a team that isn't very good. There is a lot for this team to work on.
They have not played with a true full roster yet. When they take on Houston at MSG on Monday, they could have both Ron Baker and Frank Ntilikina on the floor. They will have their hands full against Chris Paul and the Rockets. It would be nice to see Ntilikina and Porzingis on the floor at the same time to see what the two can do together. Also, Hernangomez needs to stay on the inside more. He shouldn't be one of the big men who aren't good enough mid-range shooters to be shooting 3-pointers. He shouldn't be shooting 3s ... ever.
The Knicks host the Houston Rockets on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Madison Square Garden in their penultimate preseason game, while the Nets face the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in their preseason finale.
