The Knicks really didn't stand much of a chance at all coming into this game. Being 2-11 on the road, coming off a bad road loss to the lowly Bulls last night, and playing the 24-11 Spurs the next night in San Antonio all was the recipe for another painful loss.
The Knicks are now below at 17-18 and fall to a miserable 2-12 away from MSG, and 1-12 outside New York. This is now the new low point of what has been a roller coaster ride so far this season. Four straight losses now, five of their last six, and they have 10 straight losses outside NY. The last time they won outside of NY was the fifth game of the season in Cleveland. They are also 6-8 without Tim Hardaway Jr.
This team needs Hardaway Jr. back in the worst of ways. It's not going to get any better without him, and there's going to have to be adjustments that need to be made. Jeff Hornacek is going to have to play some of these guys like Joakim Noah and Willy Hernangomez. He and Scott Perry are going to need to make the move to get Trey Burke up here and on the roster over Ramon Sessions. What is out there on the road just isn't working and it's not going to get worse making a change at least until they get their $71 million man back in the lineup. They need a boost offensively and they need to hope different guys can bring energy on both ends.
Did this team exceed expectations early and take advantage of a favorable schedule with more home games than everyone else? They sure did. They are regressing and maybe playing more like what expectations were coming into the season. With that being said, we have seen this team take down some good teams and play really well. There's no reason for people to quit on this team, but there are reasons to ask for change before the season may slip away. A game under .500 isn't a reason to go into all-out panic mode, but let's see something different. Let's see different rotations and get more guys out there instead of in a jersey on the bench every single night. Poor coaching. Time for adjustments with one game left in 2017 in New Orleans Saturday.
