After a surprising loss to the NBA-worst Bulls Saturday night, head coach Jeff Hornacek couldn't hold in his frustration after the game.
The Knicks made a late run at the end of the game to tie things at 102. But SG Kris Dunn sealed the deal at the free throw line with 2.4 seconds left following a Courtney Lee foul. The loss continued the Knicks woes on the road, and with the Bulls facing travel difficulties, it comes as even more of a shocker.
Despite the late rally, Hornacek didn't like the effort from his team whatsoever.
"First of all, that's worthless," Hornacek told The Post's Marc Berman. "The game was lost way in the beginning. That team had travel issues. We come out at the start not ready to play and let them get out to a big lead. There's no excuse for that. We talked about that - to hit them hard at the beginning of the game. Instead, we were floating out there."
The travel difficulties for the Bulls came after their win over the Hornets in Charlotte on Friday night. The team had to return to Chicago to face the Knicks, but couldn't get in until Saturday afternoon. Hornacek believed his team should have pounced all over that mishap, but instead, they suffered their eighth loss on the road. Now, they sit at 1-8 in away games, which is an NBA worst.
Kristaps Porzingis took the last shot of the ballgame -- a 3-ball that rimmed out at the buzzer. He finished the game with 23 points, but his 10-for-25 from the field was his main concern after the loss. Not the final shot.
"I feel like I let my teammates down and I'm not talking about the final shot -- in general," Porzingis said. "We and I can't start the game like that and I take full responsibility for this loss."
The Knicks clearly have a problem on the road as they couldn't beat the now 5-20 Bulls. General manager Scott Perry acknowledged this as the next step in the process to build his young team.
"With a young team, that's the last component -- learning how to win on the road," Perry said.
Hornacek added: "The only way you can win on the road in this league is to play all 48 minutes not just the end of the game. Some teams in this league can coast through some road games. We're not one of those teams."
The Knicks will look to rebound at home against the Hawks on Sunday.
