The Knicks came away with their fourth victory of the season on Monday night, a solid 123-105 win over the Cavaliers on the Madison Square Garden court.
However, this winning feeling shouldn't be something the Knicks will be feeling for the rest of the season. Well, at least according to FiveThirtyEight.
Using their own RAPTOR ratings, the blog has set predictions for the rest of the Knicks' games for the season. And thanks to The Daily News' Stefan Bondy's investigating, the Knicks are only favored in one of their final 68 games for the regular season.
That game is on March 17 against the Hornets, where the Knicks are favored by -1.5 over Charlotte on their home MSG floor. There are two other contests that are labeled as toss ups, against the Spurs on Nov. 23 and the Hawks on Dec. 17.
Now, of course, those lines can change depending on what the Knicks actually accomplish on the hardwood. However, this analytics system by FiveThirtyEight clearly doesn't believe the Knicks at all early on this season.
As of now, the Knicks' 4-10 record isn't the absolute worst in the league, as it was at the end of last year. The Warriors (yes, those Warriors) are 2-12, while five other teams have four wins on the season thus far. The Wizards are also the worst team in the Eastern Conference at 3-8.
Head coach David Fizdale's bunch looked cohesive and locked in on Monday night, and they're certainly hoping for those kinds of results moving forward. We'll see if they can change the lines to give them more favorites on the betting slips down the road.
