The Knicks are reportedly looking to shop SG Kuzminskas Mindaugas to make room for C Joakim Noah, per ESPN's Ian Begley.
Noah is set to return from his 20-game suspension on Monday when the Knicks host the Cavaliers. With 15 guaranteed contracts on the Knicks' payroll, the best option to make space for Noah would be to trade an asset away instead of waiving a player.
This is why the Knicks have opened up trade talks on Mindaugas, who has yet to see the floor this season. He is, however, a 28-year-old shooting guard who played valuable minutes in his rookie season last year, and showed some promise. He averaged six points, 1.9 rebounds, and one assist in 15 minutes per game.
Interest on Mindaugas is unclear, and if they cannot shop him away, Begley suggests PG Ramon Sessions would be waived due to his lack of playing time since PG Jarrett Jack took over the starting role.
The 32-year-old Noah is not a definite to be back in the lineup as head coach Jeff Hornacek doesn't want to ruin the chemistry the Knicks have had over their 5-1 streak. Enes Kanter has been the starter down low while Kyle O'Quinn has backed him up.
Noah averaged five points and 8.8 rebounds in 46 games last season.

Trying to trade Kuzminskas makes perfect sense for the Knicks. He hasn't played yet this season. He had times he looked like a decent player last season, but he needs to get stronger and become more than just a three-point shooter.
The issue the Knicks will run into is what are they going to get in a trade for him, if anything?
The hope is that they can get a second-round pick for him, but even that could end up being a stretch right now. Kuzminskas' value right now is at its lowest since he hasn't stepped on the court yet.
If the Knicks can't find a trade partner for him, waiving Sessions makes perfect sense. The veteran was brought in here as more of an insurance option. The Knicks have Frank Ntilikina, Jack, and they're already paying Ron Baker $4 million a year. Sessions doesn't play and doesn't do much for this team where they need him on the roster.
Waiving Sessions seems like the most logical move at the moment to clear room for Noah.
