The Knicks signed G Trey Burke, the team announced on Sunday.
The team did not disclose terms of the contract, which was annonced one day after Ramon Sessions was waived.
Signed this past summer to be the Knicks' starting point guard, Sessions played a total of 12 minutes in the club's last 10 games. He's averaging 3.7 points and has appeared in only 13 of New York's 40 games this season.
In 26 games with the Westchester Knicks in the G-League this season, Burke has averaged 26.6 points on 49 percent shooting with 5.3 assists..
Burke was the ninth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft but failed to live up to the lottery-pick hype. After spending his first three seasons with the Jazz, Burke played for the Wizards last year and was marginalized to the fringes of their rotation. He averaged just 12 minutes per game over the season and played a total of 20 garbage time minutes in the playoffs.
At 25 years old, Burke has a chance to restart his career in New York. He feels he's more mature, too.
"That Trey Burke -- there was a lot of distractions going on with that Trey Burke. That Trey Burke was 19 years old," Burke told James Herbert of CBS Sports. "This Trey Burke now, I'm married, I'm in the house, I'm not worried about things that a lot of players worry about."
The Knicks will face the Pelicans at 3:30 p.m. Sunday before taking on the Nets on Monday for their Martin Luther King Jr. Day matinee at 3 p.m.
