With Joakim Noah eligible to return on Monday, the Knicks waived Mindaugas Kuzminskas on Sunday.
Kuzminskas averaged 6.3 points in 68 games for the Knicks last season but had appeared in just one game this year.
"The respect this franchise has for Mindaugas cannot be overstated," Knicks General Manager Scott Perry said. "His professionalism and work ethic were greatly appreciated by his teammates, coaches and the entire staff. This decision was extremely tough for us. We wish him nothing but the best moving on with his playing career."
Noah, 32, missed the first 12 games to start the season as he finished serving a 20-game suspension dating back to last season. Noah averaged five points and 8.8 rebounds per game last season for the Kniks.
