"An analyst commenting on the desire of Cablevision to sell off some of its holdings said today the Knicks likely are worth $500 million, well above the NBA average franchise value of $150 million."
Cablevision said today it is considering "several options to boost its stock price, including spinning off some of its diverse holdings". It did not say which businesses it would consider selling.
I know all of you are wishing for this to happen and be done with Jim Dolan forever. I doubt that Cablevision would sell off owning teams in the heart of New York City. Remember its free exposure and advertising for the company. Its also immensely profitable when the team is run well and winning. At one point I heard the Garden makes about a million dollars per home playoff game. As someone who works for a Fortune 500 I always say analysts are no different then sports talk show hosts, except their (usually) wrong predictions actually play a role in the outcome of the game.
