Cavaliers F LeBron James said a report that he's pushing for a trade that would bring Kevin Love to the Knicks in exchange for Carmelo Anthony is "trash."
"It's trash," James said in a postgame interview Monday night. "And the guy who wrote it is trash too, for writing that, especially during the game like that. So it's always about outside noise, and that's just outside noise for us. We got to focus on what needs to be done and that's to continue to compete for a championship. And we got who we got. Our GM will do a great job of figuring out if we need something else, but right now we're in a good place."
The NY Daily News' Frank Isola had written that James had been trying to persuade the Cavs to trade for Anthony even if it meant trading Love, even though the Cavaliers reportedly rejected such a trade offer last month.
Several other teams, including the Clippers and Celtics, have also been linked to Anthony, who has a full no-trade clause.
The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 23.
Speaking to reporters in Cleveland last Friday, James said he "just want[s] the best" for Anthony, according to ESPN.
"I just want the best for my friend, no matter what it is," James said. "If [Anthony's] there in New York or if not, I just want the best for him. I want him to be happy."
