At the NBA Combine, teams are getting a better feel for players they've watched ad nauseam on tape this season. They are also given the chance to talk to these players.
One of the players the Knicks have chosen to interview is Missouri F Michael Porter Jr., which is intriguing as the talented forward with injury issues could be drafted around when the Knicks are on the clock with the 9th pick. But, it doesn't exactly mean much because Porter Jr. has interviewed, or will interview, with at least 13 teams at the combine.
Porter Jr. said he's interviewed with the Knicks, Mavericks, 76ers, Suns, Cavaliers, Hawks, Grizzlies, Rockets and Clippers and is set to interview with the Kings, Hornets, Thunder and Celtics tomorrow.
The one-and-done star didn't get a chance to shine at Missouri due to a back injury limiting him to a total of just three games. In 17.7 minutes per game, he averaged 10.0 points and 6.7 rebounds. He was the no. 2 prospect in his recruiting class, behind Duke's Marvin Bagley III, but picked up an injury that would require back surgery after just two minutes into his collegiate debut. He worked hard to return for the SEC Tournament.
Porter Jr. isn't short on confidence, though, as he said he's the best player in the draft while at the combine.
