Despite Knicks owner James Dolan's remarks that Charles Oakley might have a drinking problem, Oakley told the New York Post that he does not have an issue with alcohol and has actually been helping others that do.
According to the report, Oakley said he has been helping ex-Net Jayson Williams in his own recovery. Oakley has assisted Williams, especially since his second DWI.
"Dolan might think because I go to volunteer at Rebound Institute treatment centers with Jayson that I'm a client,'' Oakley said. "I'm just supporting the amazing work Jayson is doing. I'm not an alcoholic but Jayson is.''
On Friday during an interview with Michael Kay on ESPN Radio, Dolan thought the incident on Wednesday with Oakley at Madison Square Garden might have to do with alcohol.
"Charles has got a problem," Dolan said. "He has a problem. People need to sort of understand that. He is, he has a problem with anger. He's both physically and verbally abusive. He may have a problem with alcohol -- we don't know."
