Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks in scoring with 31 points on 10-23 shooting from the field. He added nine rebounds, three assists and had five turnovers.
Tyson Chandler's streak of 20 rebounds came to end as he had 13 rebounds tonight and scored eight points.
John Wall led the Wizards in scoring with 21 points to go along with nine assists and five rebounds. Trevor Ariza scored 20 points off the bench with five made three pointers.
Raymond Felton scored 17 points on 6-13 from the field but only had four assists with three rebounds and two steals.
The Wizards average 15 turnovers a game but only had 10 tonight
The Wizards had six players score in double figures.
The Wizards had 23 assists while the Knicks only had 14.
The Knicks shot 40% from the field and 32% from three while the Wizards shot 53% from the field and 55% from downtown
This was the first time the Knicks have lost to the Wizards in the past 10 games between the two teams.
This was only the 5th time the Knicks have lost to a team under .500.
Tonight, we will see another team, in the same group as the others on the home stand in the Wizards. Yes, they have played much better since Wall returned from injury. But seriously, does anyone truly believe the Knicks are gonna lose tonight? That was what I wrote in the pre game before the Knicks played a very putrid fourth quarter and really an uneven overall game in losing to the lowly Wizards. A classic foot in mouth moment for me.
My confidence in this team taking care of business against the bottom of the NBA is sky high and I don’t think tonight is the night the Knicks letdown. I’m saving that possibility for the game Friday against Minnesota.
So, sit back, relax and enjoy the game tonight. If the Knicks lose, it will be pretty stunning.
The Heat, Thunder, Bulls and Clippers know the feeling the Knicks have, as they also lost to the Wizards in D.C.
The Knicks had another slow start, got back into the game, had moments where they looked real good and would take the game, but the Wizards never let up.
I think with the score 73-68 Knicks late in the third, they had chances to make the lead bigger and couldn't. Then, even though they only scored two more points, the Knicks let the Wizards finish the quarter well and it carried over into the fourth.
But, overall the defense in the fourth quarter was pretty much a joke.
Slow starts in the first, third and the fourth doomed the Knicks tonight. Considering they are the best fourth quarter team in the NBA when it comes to score differential, to be blasted 36-23 was surprising to say the least.
Normally, I would want to point out some positives from the Knicks, and there were some, but, losing to Wizards is such a joke that I'm not going to waste the time.
I think that the Wizards are obviously much better with Wall, 8-7 since he returned, and they just shot the lights out from three and got some lucky bounces in the fourth quarter.
The Knicks got some humble pie tonight and I'm curious to see if they come out on Friday in Minnesota and prove it was a fluke or let it affect them further on this mini road trip.
Like I wrote in the pre-game excerpt that you see above, if the Knicks lose it will be pretty stunning.
I'm pretty stunned.
Coming up next the Knicks will look to get back on track as they head west to the land of a thousand lakes and get to take on Ricky Rubio, Andrei Kirilenko and the Minnesota Timberwolves. The game is on Friday at 8:00 pm and can be seen on MSG.
