Commissioner David Stern has worked quietly behind the scenes to have Knicks owner James Dolan bring back president Donnie Walsh to finish out the final year of his contract, a source with knowledge of the situation told The Post. This would seem to be a contradiction to the idea that Stern wouldn't get involved if Isiah Thomas were to come back with the Knicks in some capacity, which is what he said over the summer. Stern has been very careful to stay away from organizational and player decisions especially with the CBA approaching this summer.
Irregardless of the possibility, I just don't see Dolan bringing back Thomas. If they have phone discussions that's one thing, but having control of the franchise is another. The friendship is what it is.
I think the Walsh situation works itself out once the team secures a playoff spot.
