"Donnie has always had a plan in the restructuring of the Knicks roster," the source said. "While he has succeeded in putting the organization in a position to do so, he believes the job isn't finished."
Many Knick fans would like to see Walsh, and the overall front office, remain intact for the simple fact that stability is good business moving forward. At some point the franchise needs to show some stability, especially since they have asked so much from the fans in terms of loyalty and patience over the past few years. Walsh sold his plan on fans because of his background and experience along with the fact that the franchise was in such disarray most knew a change was necessary.
"He has always worked with the Knicks' future in mind, but, until recently, has never been given indication where he fits with the Owners' forward thinking," the source continued.
"He doesn't want the focus to be on him. He never has."
