Such competition may prove to be a steep order for New York, as each aforementioned squad stands tall as a likely title contender with Anthony on board. It's unlikely the Knicks will be able to say the same immediately heading into next season.
But in addition to these contenders, could the Phoenix Suns also enter the Carmelo sweepstakes?
That surely seems to be a possibility, according to Yahoo! Sports.
But ironically enough, Anthony wouldn't necessarily be the team's primary target. According to the report, LeBron James would be the Suns' top priority in this case. With an abundance of cap space and plenty of other related worthwhile assets to get some of sign & trade deal done (if necessary), Phoenix could potentially offer James the opportunity to handpick his ideal running mate, whether that stands to be Anthony (or Chris Bosh) this summer, or perhaps Kevin Love in 2015.
James' agent also represents Suns' stud Eric Bledsoe, which perhaps means James will be more willing to listen to such an offer.
