People get carried away this time of year with comparisons.

For instance, the comparison of South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney to former Giant great and Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor.

From PFT:

Former Giants linebacker Carl Banks has heard some people compare his former teammate, Lawrence Taylor, to Jadeveon Clowney. And Banks isn?t impressed by that comparison.

SHOWTIME Sports reports from the red carpet premiere for LT: The Life & Times, a feature-length documentary film chronicling the spectacular on-field Hall of Fame NFL career of Lawrence Taylor, as well as his tumultuous off-field life.

I began watching NFL football in 1967. Taylor was the greatest defensive player I ever saw. Not even close for second, as Parcells would say. It has been 33 years since the New Orleans Saints passed on Taylor with the overall No.1 pick in the draft. The Giants scooped him up with the next selection and the rest is history.

Ok.....Everyone has to get a hold of themselves. Americans have a penchant for allowing themselves to get caught up in the moment. Such is the case with the retirement of Ravens' LB Ray Lewis, who could possibly be playing his last NFL game this weekend. All across the internet, sports talk radio and television, Lewis is being lauded as the best defensive player ever.

I disagree.

I will concede that he is certainly one of the greatest who has ever played. He will be a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer and will be remembered as a fierce competitor with a unique skill set that few before him had possessed. His leadership qualities are par none.

Former Giants pass-rush?aficionado Lawrence Taylor made an appearance on Showtime's "Inside the NFL" last night, where he participated in a segment called "Dear Insiders."

When asked about how Tim Tebow could succeed in the NFL, he said some ... off-centered advice.

"I would say he would have to go to church, Temple -- wherever he goes -- find a nice girl," said Taylor, who added some more colorful language. "I mean marry her if he has to ... but he's got to get some of that pressure off."
Former Giants QB Phil Simms and Cris Collinsworth laughed at Taylor's remarks. Simms added:

Eccentric actor Charlie Sheen said he would be honored to have won the bidding for Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl XXV ring except that.....he didn't bid on it....

From our friends over at Tmz.com:

"Charlie Sheen tells TMZ ... he is NOT the mystery buyer who dropped $230k on Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl ring ... despite widespread media reports to the contrary. LT had gifted the Super Bowl XXV ring to his son TJ ... who decided to put the ring up for auction without asking his father for permission first. It sold for $230,401 ... and LT's agent told various media outlets he believed Sheen was the buyer. According to Sheen ... LT's agent was wrong. ?As much as I would be honored to own such an important artifact, I had nothing to do with the acquisition" ... Sheen tells us. It's not a crazy rumor ... considering Sheen is a bigtime sports memorabilia collector who already owns Babe Ruth's 1927 World Series ring. No word if the REAL buyer plans to reveal his or her identity any time soon...."

It's a crazy world with lots of crazy people in it. Today, a rumor has been circulating via social media that Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl XXV ring was bought by actor Charlie Sheen via auction last weekend for over $230,401.

FOX football reporter Jay Glazer began the stir earlier today via Twitter....

@JayGlazer..."Got no idea if this is true but if is it's hilarious. Lawrence Taylor & his agent Mark Lepselter were told last night winning bidder for LT's Super Bowl Ring was none other than Charlie Sheen!!!"

Former Giants great Lawrence Taylor is auctioning off his Super Bowl XXV ring. The embattled Hall of Famer, who has had numerous off-filed legal issues since leaving the NFL in 1993, is seeking a much-needed $75-100K for the unique piece of jewelry.

From Will Brinson of CBSSports.com....

You can bid on the ring right here (or, like me, just stare at the diamonds), but you're gonna need some cash -- the current bid for the ring is $37,982. Of course, if the ring is, as the auction description claims, "arguably the most significant" Super Bowl ring ever, then it's totally worth it. Even with the "considerable wear."

"Presented here is arguably the most significant Superbowl player ring ever offered publicly. Lawrence Taylor's own 1991 Superbowl XXV ring feature two football shaped diamonds on the face surrounded by worn blue enameling framed by seventeen smaller diamonds. Design elements include the name 'TAYLOR' on the left shank above a Giants helmet and his number '56.' Engraved on the interior band in the full name 'LAWRENCE TAYLOR,'" the auction description reads. "The ring shows considerable wear, that in some eyes, only enhances it aura. A phenomenally important memento from one of the greatest football players of all-time. Size: 12."

Giants Hall of Fame LB Lawrence Taylor was interviewed by ESPN New York's Ian O'Connor this week and said he would be "shocked" if his former team lost to the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow night.

"I know you think I'm biased, but the Giants have by far the better athletes, they are tougher mentally, and they have by far the better coaching. I guarantee you that Dallas ain't taking s--- away from the Giants. If the Giants lose this game, they'll lose it themselves. Dallas won't take it away from them."

"The Giants should work on their fundamentals and don't worry about what Dallas is going to do...They've got some really gifted athletes there...Guys like Tuck, Umenyiora and (Pierre-Paul), they're a lot better athletes than we had in our day. I look at those guys right there and damn, I couldn't imagine how good my Giants teams would've been if we had those athletes you've got nowadays."

1982 was not one of the NFL's proudest years. A 57-day players' strike shortened the regular season from 16 to nine games. ?The Giants came into the season with high hopes after qualifying for the playoffs in 1981 for the first time in eighteen seasons.

The truncated seasons caused the NFL to scrap their traditional playoff format for a 16-team tournament in which the top eight teams in each conference would qualify. The Giants finished the season with a 4-5 record, which was good enough to make the playoffs, but due to tiebreakers they would be left on the outside looking in.

The team that got that eighth slot turned out to be the Detroit Lions, who the Giants faced that Thanksgiving Day in the Pontiac Silverdome. With the game tied at 6 in the fourth quarter and the Lions knocking at the door, Detroit QB Gary Danielson threw an out pattern to RB Horace King inside the five.

Hello GFB community. I will be doing a weekly blog post, focusing on areas where I think the Giants could use some improvement. Expect to see me every Thursday.

For my first post I thought I would try to establish a rubric, so to speak, for my own dissatisfaction with the MLB situation.? I know it seems sometimes that I (Igs) am only seeing this thing from the ?glass half empty? perspective, but in truth there are a number of important angles that inform my reservations:

How close are the Giants?

The Bad - Taylor Sued In Florida Traffic Accident

LT is being sued by a man in Miami-Dade circuit court for $15k in damages incurred in a traffic accident last November.

Taylor was arrested after leaving the scene of the accident, but has not made a public statement until yesterday when CBS4 Miami's Peter D'Oench tracked him down on a golf course yesterday.

"The law says you can seek safe harbour. You don't have to stay on 826, a busy and dangerous highway. There's no way I was going to stop, no way I was going to stay put. If I had stopped on the highway and someone would have hit me, I would have been liable for that accident. I'm not even sure I hit a vehicle. I don't know what I hit. There's no way I was going to stay put. There's no way I was going to stop."

CEO John Mara is reserving comment on the Lawrence Taylor rape charges, but did tell reporters that it was "sad and disheartening".?? Former teammate Ottis Anderson added. He is dealing with so much that you just try not to be another distraction to him but he knows we got his back.?

A friend of the underage runaway who accused Giants' legend Lawrence Taylor of rape allegedly told investigators the teen victim bragged about making money without actually having sex, according to published reports.

This could exonerate LT, but he still is putting himself in precarious situations.....he needs to learn from this - something he has never done: learn from his mistakes.

ESPN is reporting that former Giant great Lawrence Taylor will be participating in the upcoming season of "Dancing??With the Stars"

As a fan no one image ?has given me more pleasure then watching LT line up in a two point stance. The only other captured moment?that comes close is Patrick Ewing raising his arms on the media table at MSG after beating the Pacers to get to the finals. Still, I routed for big blue to fail on offense just so I could see more of #56 on D. I have a game worn jersey, 56 is in every one of my passwords for email, bank codes and ?bill paying. I even dated a girl with his initials once, just for the story. This news saddens me a bit, but the truth is Emmitt, Jason Taylor, Warren Sapp and Jerry Rice have already blazed the trail, so for?me the stigma is no longer as great. Still I will not be tuning in to ABC. I always want to remember LT in that two point stance hunting qb's like a bunch of CRAZED DOGS.

What are your thoughts?
