What college in America wouldn't sign right now to take LeBron James Jr.?

I mean, really.

Ask any coach in America and they'd probably sign to take him when he gets to college -- even if he is just 11 now.

As Phil Jackson prepares to put his own stamp on the Knicks and build from the ground up this coming summer, he and the rest of the team's brass will use the rest of this season to evaluate and examine which?of New York's current players may be worth holding onto.

Of course, Carmelo Anthony, Tim Hardaway Jr., Pablo Prigioni, and Jose Calderon are among those currently under contract for next season. Langston Galloway is owed a partial guarantee. Other options include Lance Thomas and Travis Wear.

In Wear's case, the forward turned heads following Summer League and training camp, impressing just enough, not only to sneak onto the opening night roster, but also earn his full guaranteed salary after managing to stick around past January.

It's hard not to focus on the 2014 NBA offseason, one in which both Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James will hit free agency.

Melo and LeBron will both reportedly be targeted by the Los Angeles Lakers, who will likely seek a new superstar to build around in the post-Kobe Bryant Era.

While Melo's suitors are expected to be Los Angeles and the Knicks, LeBron will likely be coveted by every team in the NBA, including the aforementioned Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers, his hometown team that he abruptly departed from in a TV special.

The free-agent crop of 2014 includes its fair share of talent. There's Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, but ESPN named New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony as the biggest prize of the group.

Of course, being listed ahead of James will draw criticism, but insider Amin Elhassan has a caveat: Anthony can alter a franchise, while still not being the best player on a true title contender.

"Even if he's not the most gifted scorer in the league, he certainly has the most complete arsenal," Elhassan wrote. "Yet for all of his offensive excellence, Anthony hasn't shown the ability (or desire) to elevate the other parts of his game necessary to take a good team to greatness."

The rest of the Eastern Conference is improving around the New York Knicks.

The Miami Heat are the defending champs, and well, LeBron James is still on the team. The Indiana Pacers proved they're a tough test for the Knicks in the playoffs. The Brooklyn Nets added Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to play alongside Deron Williams, and the Chicago Bulls will get a healthy Derrick Rose back this year.

So Carmelo Anthony, how will you respond?

Linsanity took the Garden by storm. It took New York by storm. It took the NBA by storm. In fact, Linsanity made waves throughout sports, as well as music, TV and pop culture.

It also sparked a bidding war between the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets, one in which the Rockets won by handing Jeremy Lin -- an unknown-turned-fan favorite point guard -- a three-year, $25.1 million deal to be a part of the revamped Rockets roster.

But for that amount of dough, Lin's 2012-13 season in which he averaged 13 points and 6 assists, did not live up to the expectations.

Earlier this week, ESPN Insider projected J.R. Smith to be a top-10 shooting guard in 2013-14. Now, the site has shifted its focus onto the forwards.

Projecting the top 10 power forwards for the upcoming season, analyst Bradford Doolittle placed Carmelo Anthony in the No. 10 spot. According to Doolittle, Anthony's 11 WARP -- the first double-digit offensive efficiency total -- is combated by a poor defensive effort.

"His offensive efficiency spiked with his position shift, and his acceptance of the move," Doolitte wrote. "The downside of the tweak is Anthony's lack of defensive acumen. His defensive rebounding was fine when he was a 3, but one position over, it doesn't look too good. Anthony does, without a doubt, score a lot of points. Make of that what you will."

Already rumors are swirling in regards to the futures of LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, both of whom can opt of their current deals to become free agents after the 2013-14 season.

Both James and Anthony have been rumored to be targets of the Los Angeles Lakers, a team that must look to the next chapter without one Kobe Bryant.

Recently, Anthony told ESPN.com he could not commit to the New York Knicks beyond this current season. But would an Anthony departure open the door for James to come to the Big Apple?

Anthony, 29, can opt out of his contract following the 2013-14 season. He has been rumored to be a target of the Los Angeles Lakers, where the franchise will look to rebuild and reemerge after the loss of Dwight Howard.

On Wednesday night, the Nets were defeated by the Miami Heat by a final score of 105-85.

The Skinny: Miami?s ?Big Three? started red hot from the field, hitting on seven of their first 10 shots to establish a 10-point advantage. The Nets made a small dent into the lead, but the Heat shot 5-for-5 from three-point range in the quarter to maintain a 10-point lead after one.

Miami kept knocking down threes, but the Nets? second unit, led by Andray Blatche, provided an energy boost to get within six. Brook Lopez began heating up from the outside to help cut the lead to two, and he then found Gerald Wallace down low for a layup on the next possession to tie the game. The teams traded buckets in the closing seconds to head into the break all tied up. The Nets outscored the Heat 29-19 in the second quarter.

The Brooklyn Nets went into Miami last night with two things in mind, first exact some revenge from a previous blowout to the Heat, and secondly to show the Heat that they will be a team to be dealt with come playoff time.

The Nets played good basketball in the first half, but in the the second half, the ball movement was not as good and the Heat eventually put the upstart Nets away as the Nets could not hit a single shot in the fourth quarter.

NEW YORK -- Like Yankee fans everywhere, LeBron James is feeling Mariano Rivera's pain.

After dropping a game-high 32 points on the Knicks in Miami's 87-70 victory in Game 3 Thursday night at Madison Square Garden, James went back to his hotel room and learned with the rest of the sports world that Rivera had been felled by a torn ACL.

"I think it's unfortunate, honestly," James said Friday at Heat shootaround at MSG. "We all know the great baseball player he is. Probably the best closer that MLB has ever seen. For him to have a freak accident like that, you can't explain it. No one can explain it."

Here's a quick look at the top point-guards that Lin will face the rest of this season.

  1. 2/20, 4/18 - Deron Williams : The rematch of D-Will vs. Lin should be a fun one to watch, Lin started his reign of LINSANTIY against Williams back on the 4th of Feb. Lin cooked D-Will for 27 and 7.
  2. 2/23, 4/15 - Lebron & D-Wade : The HEAT are tearing teams to shreds as of late, and the trap defenses that those two put on ball handlers mirrors Scottie and MJ. Scary. Lets see how Lin handles the MIA pressure.
  3. 3/4 Rajon Rondo : Rondo is one of, if not the best PG defenders( Take it easy CP3 heads, we'll get there). Lin is essentially playing the Rondo role moving forward, he will have the responsibilities of getting STAT, Melo, and now JR involved. Be sure to check the Box Score after this game, should be interesting.
  4. 3/9, 3/26, 4/11 Brandon Jennings : These 3 games can be very important to the Knicks playoffs seating, the Knicks have struggled to contain Jennings in the past. BJ went off for his season high(36) during their first meeting back in Jan. Lin should be able to get past Jennings fairly easy, and could go for big numbers against the Bucks.
  5. 3/12,4/8,4/10 Derrick Rose : The reigning MVP is the ultimate assignment for Lin. Even with a aching back, Rose is still one of the the toughest tasks for any defender. Don't expect huge scoring for Lin these nights, but the team involvement that he can bring should be fun or painful watch.
  6. 4/25 Chris Paul : The should have been, almost, we all wished for CP3 will visit MSG right before the regular season ends. This game could be utterly pointless or extremely important depending on the Knicks record. Either way, Lin vs. CP3 is the pinnacle of Point-Guard battles. Hopefully "LINSANITY" is still alive and well by then.

Via SNY Why Guys
So imagine James in a huge, series deciding game at the Garden looking to distribute and refusing to use his incredible skills and athleticism to dominate ? especially in the paint. Imagine him going a full series without shooting more than four free throws in a game. Imagine the fourth-quarter disappearing acts. Imagine him getting the ball in the post eight times one game and taking just one shot! And then imagine this kind of post-game reaction from him and the response on the radio and in the tabloids.
People get on me for getting James' decision "wrong" and reporting that he was coming to New York. The Knicks were in play during that week and I still believe and trust my sources. So much so that I can tell you without question Lebron ultimately passed on The Big Apple because of the tabloid media.

Imagine what he'd be going through if the Knicks lost Game 6 of the NBA Finals with that performance?

James also chose Miami because he felt the Knicks weren't in a position (see Eddy Curry contract) to compete right away for a championship.

NEW YORK -- Dream Week for the Knicks began with a narrow victory over Carmelo Anthony and the Nuggets and ended with a blowout loss to LeBron James and the Heat.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Knicks president Donnie Walsh wasn't sure where LeBron James would land after the team made a two-hour presentation to the King and his entourage July 1 in Cleveland.

All summer after the decision, fans of the site would scold me via comments and emails for posting/ reporting anything Lebron related. They felt it was time to move on and forget it. In my defense, if I felt it to be newsworthy or heard any information I felt the need as my duty to pass it along.

This current Lebron stuff, which I agree has a lot to do with deflecting the ridiculous buzz of his return to Cleveland, will go unnoticed on this blog. And don't for a second think that Lebron isn't thinking about coming to New York later in his career should he win in Miami.

Many people have already gone on record saying they couldn't believe he didn't choose NY. The fact is he didn't. At the time, from strictly a basketball perspective, I had no idea how he and Wade would fit. He would be facing the same challenges with D Rose in Chicago by the way. Bosh isn't a physical player, and like an offensive line in football, size and depth up front is a necessity to win in the East. Frankly, it's the Knicks biggest weakness- especially when Turiaf is hurt and despite the block shots.

The days leading up to the "Decision" were very hectic, and multiple sources who I've talked to over the past few weeks have filled me in on just how close James came to playing for the Knicks.
