Seton Hall pledge Isaiah Whitehead "should" make the McDonald's All-American Game, longtime New York recruiting expert and McDonald's voter Tom Konchalski told SNY.tv.

"I think he should," Konchalski said. "I can't say he's going to, but I think he should, especially being the MVP and the star of stars at the Elite 24. I think that really solidified it in most people's eyes. And then going down and playing as well as did in City of Palms, where he was MVP. I would be very surprised if he didn't make it, and he certainly deserves it. He's one of the best guards in the country."

The 6-foot-4 Whitehead was one of 19 New York City players nominated and stands the best chance among Big Apple players to make the game. If he does, he would join former Lincoln stars Lance Stephenson, Sebastian Telfair and Stephon Marbury in the McDonald's Game.

NEW YORK -- As of Wednesday night and into early Thursday morning, it appeared that Brooklyn Lincoln guard Isaiah Whitehead might stay home and play for his hometown team -- St. John's.

Ranked No. 12 nationally by Scout.com, Whitehead would have been ?St. John's first commit in the Class of 2014 and the program's first McDonald's All-American to remain at the school since?Omar Cook?in 2000.

"After we went to St. John's [Wednesday], we sat there and we spoke to them," Whitehead's mother, Ericka?Rambert,?said Thursday at Lincoln. "Up until [Wednesday] night St. John's was heavy on his mind. He was like, 'Oh, I don't want to give up on the city.' Everybody was treating him, 'Oh, stay home for New York City, New York City, New York City, New York City.

NEW YORK -- When Isaiah Whitehead committed to Seton Hall on Thursday afternoon, he automatically became the highest-ranked player in the Class of 2014 committed to a Big East school, according to the Scout.com rankings.

In fact, Seton Hall now has the two highest-rated incoming recruits, with Whitehead at No. 12 and forward Angel Delgado at No. 42. (See chart below.)

Remember that Syracuse, Louisville and UConn are among those no longer in the Big East, so other top commits who would have played in the Big East are now headed to other conferences.

Wednesday marks the beginning of the NCAA late signing period and several of the top basketball recruits in the nation -- including Brooklyn's own Lance Stephenson -- have yet to pick a college.

Three of the Top 10 recruits in the Class of 2009 according to Rivals.com -- No. 1 John Wall, No. 3 Xavier Henry and No. 9 Stephenson -- are keeping college coaches and fans sweating until they make their final decisions.

"It's unusual that that many of the elite players are still available," said Queens-based recruiting expert Tom Konchalski. "Part of it is due to the dislocation and movement in the college coaching ranks. Xavier Henry would've been all settled [at Memphis] had John Calipari stayed. ... Some of them like to be the last guy [to pick a school] because that gets them into print more."

DETROIT - While Xavier and C.J. Henry have received their releases from Memphis and are considering what to do next, DeMarcus Cousins is in a holding pattern, waiting to make his next move in the wake of Memphis naming Josh Pastner as its new head coach Monday.

Carl Henry has previously said that Xavier would like to go to Kansas, but it could depend on whether C.J. gets an NCAA waiver and is able to play immediately next year, as opposed to sitting out another year. If he does get an NCAA waiver to play immediately, the brothers could potentially play together at Kansas or Kentucky. If not, Xavier could go to Kansas or Kentucky and C.J. would remain at Memphis.

Carl said that as of Tuesday morning he hadn't spoken with Pastner since the 31-year-old was named head coach Monday.
