What unit stood out last year as the one that needs the most improvement this offseason? It was the Giants? secondary, right?

Countless times, the Giants gave up huge plays in the secondary, especially on third down, which kept the opposing offense on the field.

Big Blue was near the top of the league in giving up passing plays of more than 20 yards. Stevie Brown had a breakout season, but that was pretty much all the positive recognition this unit received.

With the New York Giants once again electing to pass on a linebacker in the first few rounds of the 2011 NFL draft I have to assume they are keeping an eye toward free agency. The Giants may look into linebackers Paul Posluszny and Barrett Ruud.

Posluszny played for DC Perry Fewell in Buffalo and Ruud is an inside backer familiar with the Tampa 2 defense. Both would be great fits for the Giants, but fans would be glad to nab either one of them when the CBA is agreed upon and free agency begins.

The chain of great Giants linebackers has always been strong and the team prided itself on their men in the middle. That chain has long been broken and the pride has gone with it. As a result, the Giants have been susceptible to embarrassing breakdowns and blowouts on defense.

These days the Giants clearly? have a dearth at the LB position. They have some capable young players filling the spots, but many feel capable is not going feed the admiral's cat in this man's NFL...

It must be Groundhog Day if this NY Giants blog asks again- what are the Giants are going to do to draft a LBer?!

With very little on our plates but the upcoming draft, I have been reading and watching several reports from this week's Senior Bowl.

Several names have kept popping up. One in particular, Ryan Kerrigan of Purdue, continues to impress.

As I wrote in this space several days ago, I would be in favor of him becoming a Giant.? They would have to use their first round selection to get him, but if he is there at #19, he would be a steal.
