Has the Brook Lopez injury put Paul Pierce on the trading block?

Bleacher Report's Howard Beck writes that the Nets could look to trade Pierce for future considerations if they truly believe they can't compete without their star center, and speculates a reunion with his former coach could be in the cards:

[sny-box]Nets officials must now confront the same calculus: If the title chase is lost, is there any reason to keep Pierce? Is there any reason not to trade him by the Feb. 20 deadline??Even at 36, Pierce could be valuable as a short-term rental for a contending team. A reunion with Doc Rivers in Los Angeles seems more than plausible, if the Nets and?Clippers?can work out the details.[/sny-box]

Tonight at the Barclays Center, the Nets will look to win their third straight game, as they host the Los Angeles Clippers at 8:00 pm. After facing their former team on Tuesday, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett will now square off with their former head coach, Doc Rivers, for the first time since leaving the Boston Celtics.

It's actually the second time this season that the Nets and Clippers have squared off, as the Clippers defeated the Nets at the Staples Center back on November 16. However, Pierce and Garnett did not play in that game, (and neither did Deron Williams and Brook Lopez, among others) in a game where the Nets' reserves played respectably against L.A.'s full squad, with the Clippers ultimately winning 110-103.

It's been a week of reunions for Pierce, Garnett and Rivers, as the Nets played the Celtics on Tuesday, and the Clippers played Boston the very next day. The ex-Celtics players and coach were all successful, as Boston dropped both games. Now, they get to face each other, with the Nets playing as good as they have all season.

NEW YORK ? A marvelous second half defensive effort and a 12-2 run over the final 3:58 of the game helped propel the Brooklyn Nets past the Pacific Division-leading Los Angeles Clippers, 86-76, at Barclays Center to snap a two-game losing streak on Friday evening.

Brook Lopez finished with 26 points, five rebounds and three blocks, while Joe Johnson went for 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting in 39 minutes. His 3-pointer from the left baseline with with 1:42 to play put the Nets up 82-74 and all but iced it.

Who's better? Deron Williams or Chris Paul? It's a question NBA fans have been asking for a long time.

Tonight, the battle will be front and center as the Los Angeles Clippers visit the brand new Barclays Center in Brooklyn to play the Nets at 7:30pm. This is the only time the Clippers will visit Brooklyn this season unless the two teams meet in the NBA Finals.

Tonight should be fun, as Williams holds a 13-4 career record advantage against Paul and Nets fans hope that continues tonight.

"This new borough battle already got good at the money level when towering Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov referred to Knicks owner James Dolan as "that little man" in?New York Magazine. Tyson Chandler and Carmelo Anthony dismissed the Nets as a budding rival but it is hard to ignore what is going on across the East River."

It seems as though the rest of the NBA Community has taken notice of what the Brooklyn Nets have built this offseason. With perennial playoff teams like the Orlango Magic and Atlanta Hawks taking a major step back and Derrick Rose expected to miss at least the first half of the season, it's hard to imagine the Nets NOT making the playoffs this season.
