It was too little too late for the Islanders tonight at the Coliseum. They got two late goals to claw back to within one. First it was Frans Nielsen finding a loose puck and roofing a clear shot from the slot with the man advantage with about seven minutes to go. Then, with three minutes to go a poorly timed delay of game penalty from Carolina's Justin Faulk gave the Islanders a 6-on-4 for two minutes. They wouldn't score on the man advantage but seconds after it expired Kyle Okposo also found himself with a clear shot from the slot, which he buried for his third of the year (note: he had only four all last season).
The Islanders did have a 6-on-5 with a minute to go to try and force overtime. Inexplicably for Carolina, ?Okposo was sprung for a clear shot with about half a minute to go, but nothing came of it and the Islanders were unable to find the tying marker late.
