The Mets have met with the representative for free agent infielder Asdrubal Cabrera, reports Mike Puma of the New York Post, who says the Mets are seeking a player who can play second base (either as a starter or reserve) while also giving the team a backup shortstop option. The soon-to-be 33-year-old Cabrera hit .262/.316/.458 with 23 homers in 147 games last season split between the Mets and Phillies, who the Mets traded him to for RHP Franklyn Kilome

While the Mets have Jeff McNeil "penciled in" as their second baseman, according to GM Brodie Van Wagenen, they are in need of a backup shortstop since Jose Reyes' Mets career is over.

Danny Abriano, SNY.tv | Twitter | If the Mets are truly interested, a reunion with Cabrera as a jack-of-all-trades who can fill in at second base, shortstop, and third base makes sense. As someone who would potentially start on a team that hopes to contend, it does not...

The Mets have optioned INF Luis Guillorme to Triple-A Las Vegas, and recalled RHP Gerson Bautista.

Guillorme has been struggling with the Mets this season, as he owns a .172/.250/.207 slash line over 29 games. He also committed two errors in last night's loss to the Pirates. Guillorme is known for his glove, which makes his trouble in the field worrisome.

Bautista rejoins the Mets for the third time this season. His most recent call-up came on May 28.

1) After Robert Gsellman allowed the Braves to tie the game in the sixth, the Mets loaded the bases in the seventh and cashed in on Guillorme's second single of the game and fourth hit of the doubleheader. Amed Rosario followed with an RBI single one inning after driving in two runs with a bases-loaded hit of his own that erased a 4-3 deficit.

Todd Frazier (hamstring) took batting practice on Monday for the first time since landing on the DL on May 8. The 32-year-old Frazier was eligible to return from the DL this Friday.

While Frazier is progressing, he will need to run before the Mets clear him for a rehab assignment, manager Mickey Callaway said prior to Monday night's game.

In Frazier's absence, the Mets have been using a combination of Wilmer Flores, Luis Guillorme, and Jose Reyes at third base.

Michelle Ioannou, MetsBlog | TwitterThis week in Mets Land was the week of babies. Jay Bruce and his wife, Hannah, welcomed a son named Maxwell -- their second child. But that's not all. David Wright and his wife, Molly, welcomed their second child -- a baby girl named Madison.

In terms of on the field action... eh. There were two wins, a rainout, and three losses. One important and reassuring factor is that Michael Conforto has broken out of his slump, helping the Mets win in Monday night's game when he returned from his mental health break, and hitting a go-ahead homer in the ninth inning of Friday night's game.

Speaking of Friday night's game, it was a come from behind win, like the ones we saw in the month of April. And that was reassuring to both the fans and the team -- that the Mets still do have it in them; that they can rally and win. We even saw the Mets try to do this in Sunday afternoon's game, but it unfortunately didn't happen...

Guillorme called up by Mets 00:00:50
Infielder Luis Guillorme relates getting called up to the Major Leagues while he was getting a haircut and discusses his role with the Mets.

The Mets promoted INF Luis Guillorme from Triple-A Las Vegas and sent C Tomas Nido to Las Vegas prior to Wednesday afternoon's game against the Reds in Cincinnati.

The 23-year-old Guillorme will give the Mets depth in the infield after 3B Todd Frazier landed on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

Danny Abriano, SNY.tv | Twitter | If the Mets want to place an emphasis on defense, the 23-year-old Guillorme -- the best fielder in the Mets' system and one of the best defenders in all of the minors -- makes sense as the choice. Guillorme, who has not yet played in the majors, opened some eyes during Spring Training when he hit .306/.447/.417 in 20 games (36 at-bats). He's been heating up lately for the 51s, where he's hitting .300/.394/.433 with seven doubles, one HR, and one triple in 28 games (90 at-bats)...

It's time I started publishing my Mets Top 41 Prospects for 2014. For the guys outside the top 10, I'm going to publish them in groups of similar value, some of which will be bigger than others. I'll aim for two groups per week day.

I probably could have put any of the Mets' major international signings from last year in the last few spots. However, in general, I wait until after a guy has played his first year in a domestic rookie league to rank a player, or, in the case of Amed Rosario last year, it was clear he would play stateside in the following season. To justify the uncertainty of putting a 16-year-old who has yet to play his first professional game and might still be a year or two away from even playing on US soil, I want to see monster potential.

So our list this year starts with two 19-year-olds who are years away from the big leagues. Their group: Infielders who Can't Legally Drink.

SSA: Brooklyn Cyclones 2, @ Connecticut Tigers 1?

Miller Diaz: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 2 WP. Interesting. Diaz has a good arm, and at one time was more or less penciled in to start the season in Savannah. He had a poor spring so the Mets held him back for Brooklyn. He just turned 21 and has fanned 30 and walked 12 in his 25.1 IP for the Cyclones so far. He can make a claim as the top pitching prospect on the Cyclones this year.
