Marc Staal is the second longest tenured Ranger behind Henrik Lundqvist and has played over 860 combined playoff and regular season games.
Staal has been an alternate captain with the Rangers since the 2010-11 season, the first season of the 5-year deal he signed out of entry-level.
On March 9, Vigneault said of what Staal is bringing now, "experience, leadership. For our group, with all that baggage that he has of big games and preparation and being an example, it's gotta be positive for the other D to look at him. Today in practice, one of our hardest working guys out there. That is what you want from your veteran guys, to show the example, and that is what Marc is doing."
