Rivalry Check is an ongoing series in which we preview 10 of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

New Faces:?There are plenty of new ?faces in the Raptors locker room, but they are pretty familiar to fans in New York. Toronto traded Andrea Bargnani to acquire 3-point specialist Steve Novak, veteran big man Marcus Camby, Quentin Richardson and a handful of draft picks, but only Novak remains on the roster.

The Raptors also brought in D.J. Augustin and Tyler Hansbrough -- no marquee moves but ones that add some depth to their young nucleus.

Newly acquired center Andrea Bargnani is making a strong impression on the Team Italy coaching staff -- without actually being on the court.

Bargnani is a changed man, according to Team Italy associate coach Mario Foretti, who told the New York Post that the seven-footer has taken a noticeably different approach to his preparation for the European Championships.

"I think he's more mature," Fortetti said. "He knows better how we need to play at a certain level for European basketball. He's more aware of what he needs to do is and is more wise. He's more helpful this summer than his last summer (2011), is my feeling."

Word all morning is that the Nets are desperately and?feverishly trying to close a deal that will bring Dwight Howard to Brooklyn, his preferred destination for some time. While no deal is imminent it appears to be getting there as we talked about yesterday. There was whispers that Kris Humphries isn't thrilled about the idea of a one-year deal heading to Cleveland,

With the Knicks set to meet Marcus Camby in Houston today, I continue to hear that signing the former big man is the Knicks top priority.

Via NY Post

The Knicks are pursuing Camby in a potential sign-and-trade with the Rockets. If they pull off the deal, they would likely acquire Jason Kidd for the $3.09 million mid-level exception, instead of doing a sign-and-trade with Dallas. The Knicks have several pawns, including $3 million in cash, that they are now allowed to add to any deal starting July 1st.
Camby should come to a decision pretty quickly, I'm told, this week.

Spoke to two people with knowledge of the situation after my Randy Foye plea post earlier and the feeling was that the Knicks were leaning towards signing Marcus Camby and not Foye, who I'm told is getting interest from the Mavs and the Hawks. And this was before the heat got better by signing Ray Allen. Camby was considering the heat and is also very interested in reuniting in the Big Apple.

Word is the Knicks are bringing Camby in soon for a visit...

One scenario is splitting the $3.09M midlevel between Camby and veteran Spanish League PG Pablo Prigioni, who would take about $800,000 of the pie. Prigioni is 35 years old and one person familiar with the Kicks thinking said, ?Don?t erase him from the list yet.??
Camby, once a Knicks fan favorite, was reportedly banished from the Garden by James Dolan so I guess the owner has that whole water under the bridge thing working. Camby, who just turned 38, had a very productive bench role last year for both the Blazers and Rockets. He'd be a nice addition to the front line.

Looks like Marcus Camby isn't singing "I love LA" just yet. His agent, Rick Kaplan, had this to say:

"He was pretty disappointed. Marcus is a guy who really embraces the place he is (in), and he did that in Denver. He wanted to be there, and he thought they wanted him. I'm sure, eventually he'll feel that way about the Clippers. By making this move, obviously, the Clippers indicated that they wanted him and are committed to winning. They did it right after everything that happened with Elton Brand, so obviously, they are committed to winning. He's just a little disappointed right now, with the way things ended in Denver."

Heads up to the Los Angeles Daily News for the quote.
