In his first full season with the Whale, Marek Hrivik has 4 goals and 16 assists.

Hrivik, 6-1 and 197lbs had nine points in nine games for the Whale in the playoffs last season before the Rangers offered him a contract.

Updating how Hrivik is playing this season, Jim Schoenfeld told Blueshirts United "He sees the ice well. He is a very good passer/playmaker, he is sound defensively, he is good along the boards. The one area we want to see him improve is his shot. When you get to the NHL if all you are is a disher than teams are just going to defend you as a disher. You have to shoot it sooner or later or the people who you want to pass the puck to are always going to be covered. He is working on it everyday. Kenny has him shooting between 50 and 100 pucks a day and just by virtue of that repetition he will get better."

On the first day of training camp for the Whale, Jim Schoenfeld was asked about Marek Hrivik who signed an entry-level deal with the Rangers following a tryout with the Whale last season.

Schoenfeld said, "He got everyone's attention with his play last season when there was more on the line. He was arguably one of the best playoff performers. Now it's a matter of continued improvement and working on every facet to his game. His head is a bit ahead of others. He thinks that half step ahead, he knows what he is going to do with the puck before he gets it. He has good size, good puck handling ability and we see him as a legit prospect."

Hrivik told the Rangers website that he is exited to make the jump into pro hockey, "It's a big jump from the AHL or NHL to the Q where I played last year. It's faster and I just need to do my job out there."

The Rangers signed winger Marek Hrivik earlier in the offseason after a big post season in Hartford with the Whale.

On Hrivik, Jeff Gorton said during a chat on the team's website, "He was able to get into the mix a little earlier. he found some chemistry and took off from there. He was a nice find for us. He ran with it and earned a contract because of it."

Gordie Clark said of Hrivik in a video on the Rangers website, "Here?s a guy that scored 38 goals two years ago and 32 goals last year, missing 20 games. So we?ve always kept an eye on him. Our Quebec scout Daniel Dorey had an eye on him and my western scout Ernie Gere was going through. I said, will you take a look at this guy when you?re going through. I had gone up to see him after Daniel talked about and then I said Ernie you keep an eye on him. He liked him and so then we took a shot at him at the end of the season. He?s a well rounded player, he always works. He doesn?t wanna dump a puck in that?s what I love about him. He loves to hold onto it, take a hit, but make a play and like I said he scored 38 and 32 so the goals don?t surprise me at all."
