In a "Fact or Fiction" article posted on the Giants official website, the writers agree free-agent tight end Brandon Myers will have the greatest impact of all the new members of the team.

Myers, who signed on with New York to replace Martellus Bennett, led Oakland in receiving last season.

Here's what the writers had to say about Eli Manning's newest target at tight end:

In Rotoworld's newly configured post-NFL Draft lineup rankings, the New York Giants are slated at No. 11.

Offensively, the team re-signed left tackle Will Beatty and added Brandon Myers to replace Martellus Bennett, who signed with the Chicago Bears. Also making the lineup is first-round selection Justin Pugh, who is penciled in at left guard, as well as Victor Cruz, who has yet to re-sign with the team for the coming season.

I played a whole season there and thought I did well. A couple weeks passed by in free agency, a couple more weeks passed going into free agency, and I just felt like, ?Well, they?re gonna try to pay the guys they can and see what?s left for me.? It?s kind of like high school, you know, you wanna take this one girl to prom, so you keep trying to get her, but this other girl is cute but she wants to talk to you too. But you keep chasing the other one and by the time you realize you can?t get the hottest girl in school you try to get the other one but then she don?t want to go out with you either. So now you have to go to the prom alone.

Our man Jimmy Kempski of Blogging the bEast rationalizes the Giants' passe strategy for retaining TE Martellus Bennett. It was pretty fairly simple: they didn't have one. Jimmy thinks that's a good thing. Giant fans may have been overrating him this offseason, but GM Jerry Reese keeps a level head.

His "prove-it" deal to Bennett last March was a smart one. Too smart, because Bennett played himself right out of the Giants' price range. Not the worst thing in the world.

Bennett flew out of the gate last September, setting a Giant record when he caught a TD pass in each of his first three games in Blue. But he quickly plateaued, failing to build on his strong start. The Giants weighed the pros and cons of signing/not signing Bennett the past few weeks. You saw their decision today. Too many cons. They nary lifted a finger to keep him.

The New York Giants slapped restricted free agent wide receiver Victor Cruz with a first-round tender this afternoon.

According to co-owner John Mara, the Giants want to retain Cruz long-term, but "there's a limit" to what they'll pay him.

"If he took our offer, he'd be a very wealthy man," Mara said, adding, "if someone is willing to pay more than we are, then we'll have to say goodbye."

The Giants' tight end situation is a bit?murky?with Martellus Bennett a free agent this off-season.

Now that the Giants have satisfied one of their more imminent needs this offseason by signing back OT Will Beatty to a five-year, $38,75 million contract today, they could be seeking to secure another one of their key impending UFAs: TE Martellus Bennett.

With Beatty in the fold, an offer may be forthcoming shortly to the hulking superhero of MetLife, but right now he says he's not "feeling the love" from the Giants.

The self-proclaimed "Black Unicorn" is in Tampa working out with his brother Michael and is a pending free agent for the second consecutive winter. By all accounts, the Giants want him back and he has said he will come back...for the right price, of course.

Tony Pauline of USA Today Sports went down a similar path, though instead of Fluker he expects the Giants to bolster the offensive line with one of the combine's most impressive athletes, Lane Johnson of Oklahoma.

Just as the Giants appear slightly uncertain about the future of the receiving corps, that?s how the team likely feels about its tight end situation, though not as concerned over the possibility of losing a Victor Cruz-type player.

The Giants and Cowboys are set to face off in their second showdown of the season on Sunday.

For the G-Men, it's a chance to get revenge for Jerry Jones' comments following his Cowboys' win in the season opener and extend their lead in the NFC East. A win would situate Big Blue at 6-2 and potentially three games better than the runner-up.

For the Boys, it's an opportunity to sweep the series against New York for the first time since 2007 and make ground on the division-leading Giants. Both Dallas and Philadelphia are sitting at 3-3, with the Eagles facing a tough one vs. Atlanta.

Looking at Martellus Bennett, it is hard to believe he is only 25. ?He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He had just turned 21. The Cowboys had high hopes for Bennett, but he and QB Tony Romo never clicked.

In Bennett's rookie season, he and Romo hooked up for 4 touchdowns, but that early synergy disintegrated over the next three seasons. Romo favored the more seasoned Jason Witten in the passing game and Bennett became practically invisible. There were no more touchdowns and only 65 receptions over his final three seasons in Dallas.

When Bennett became eligible for free agency this past winter, the Giants swooped in and signed him almost immediately. He was brought in to defray the losses of Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum, ?who both tore ACLs in the Super Bowl.

Definitely can be a greater asset. He is a threat. He?s a threat down the seam, he?s a threat in the middle of the field in two-deep. He?s fast, he?s long, he can reach up for the ball, and we perhaps haven?t taken full advantage of that yet, but it?s a two-way street. I mean, you have to build in confidence. Being in a certain place at a certain time, the ball will be there. You have to make a play when the ball does come.

The Giants had one of the league?s most prolific offenses last season, ranking ninth in points per game (24.6), fifth in pass yards per game (295.9) and eighth in total yards per game (385.1). These metrics are impressive, but let us not ignore Big Blue?s putrid rushing yards per game average (82.1), good for last in all of football.

The departure of Brandon Jacobs?and his accompanying 152 carries and 571 rushing yards?to the San Francisco 49ers only figured to further debilitate an already feeble ground game, leaving the Giants in danger of reclaiming their spot as the league?s worst rushing team. Help arrived at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday night in the form of 5-foot-9, 205-pound running back David Wilson, a shifty speedster from Virginia Tech who immediately slides into the No. 2 spot on the Giants running back depth chart.
