Marty Mornhinweg

The week isn't getting any better for Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Skyler Mornhinweg, his son and a reserve quarterback at the University of Florida, got into a fight with Gators reserve defensive lineman Gerald Willis over a pair of cleats (AP, Oct. 7).?

The players declined to press charges against each other. But it was more bad publicity for the Gators (3-1) and coach Will Muschamp. The incident came hours after the team suspended QB Treon Harris, who is being investigated for sexual assault. Mohrhinweg, a redshirt sophomore and fourth on the depth chart, could be the backup to Jeff Driskel for Saturday's game against LSU.

A police report said Mornhinweg sustained "small lacerations on his lower lip" and was taken to a hospital for treatment. Willis had a "small cut on his chin" but did not get medical attention.

Sheldon Richardon has stepped up and taken claim for the timeout that may have cost the Jets the?game.

With 4:57 remaining in the fourth quarter, and the Jets trailing by seven, Geno Smith connected with Jeremy Kerley for a 37-yard touchdown that appeared to tie the game. The referees would wave?the play off, stating that a timeout was called from the Jets sidelines before the snap. Initially, it appeared the culprit was offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who was signally timeout while running along the sidelines, although he appeared to be backing off his decision as the clock ran down.

Upon further review, it became clear that Richardson was the one who brought the ill fated timeout to the side line officials attention. When asked about the play in question, Richardson replied,?"It?s fourth down at Lambeau Field and there was 80,000 screaming fans. They didn?t hear Marty. So, I made sure they heard him."?Richardson said.?"I let the team down".
