Acquired: 1st rd 2008 (South Carolina)
Born: 10/20/86 (Sullivan’s Island, SC)
2010 Rank: 10
Why Ranked Here: Havens offers a tantalizing package of patience and power from the second-base position. He offers a short, efficient swing that allows him to square up balls, and give him plenty of time to wait. He has the strength to do damage when he connects.
Defensively, Havens who was a shortstop in college, has made the transition to second base. He has more than enough range and arm for the position. One Mets person with an eye for infield defense noted that he still must fine tune his footwork on the double-play pivot.
In his two and a half professional seasons, Havens has played in 152 of his team’s 358 regular season games, a rate of just 42%.
2010: The problem for Havens again, was that his season was curtailed by injuries which limited him to 32 games. Oblique problems kept him from the lineup after June 11. He had surgery this off-season to shave down a rib to prevent further pain, and early spring results looked promising.
Dr. Pangloss Says: His power/patience combo make him an All-Star at 2B in a post-Utley world.
Debbie Downer Says: Can he make it through a season healthy?
