On Sunday, the Mets and Jays played one inning in the game that began Saturday. Then it started raining again in Port St. Lucie.
With two walks and a hit-by-pitch in his inning of work Sunday, LHP Jack Leathersich now has issued 15 walks in 30 innings in advanced-A on his way to a 4.20 ERA.
Tapia, Tapia, Tapia. Pitching on his day - Sunday - for the third straight week RHP Domingo Tapia took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Leading off the seventh, the 20-year old gave up a ground ball single through the left side and then promptly eliminated the runner on a groundball double play. His final line: 7 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 1 HBP, 11 ground ball outs/2 fly ball outs.
The only run he allowed came in the first. He issued a leadoff walk to CF Tony Mueller who stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and came home on an infield groundout. Tapia had his sinker working and for the most part just overpowered the Braves' lineup. He used his slider and his changeup. His slider is still inconsistent, however, and he hit a batter when his slider got away from him.
He was dominant. Now he just has to do it again. And again.
A weird note: the box score says Tapia induced 10 ground outs, but I count 11. He pitched a full 7 innings for 21 outs. Subtract his 8 strikeouts to make 13 outs. Subtract two fly balls and that leaves 11 ground ball outs, including two double-plays.
