Now Commenting On:

A+: @ Jupiter Hammerheads 5, St. Lucie Mets 4

Rehabbing CF Andres Torres was 1-for-4 with a double, his first extra-base hit of his rehab assignment. He's 4-for-12 overall in his three games in the FSL with zero walks and zero strikeouts, which suggests he's not waiting around in counts very much.

Now, lets talk about some hot young hitters.

3B Wilmer Flores homered in a 1-for-4 effort to extend his personal hitting streak to 10 straight games. He's hit .400 (14-for-35) over his last 10 with four doubles, three homers, three walks and just four strikeouts. He's slugging a modest .771 over his streak. For the year, in his first 18 games, he's hitting .311/.347/.525 and still has more extra-base hits (7) than strikeouts (6).

RF Cesar Puello was 1-for-4 with a double, already his sixth of the year. The 21-year old part of a 10-way tie for fourth in the FSL in doubles even after missing a week.

Yohan Almonte: 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

A: @ West Virginia Power 2, Savannah Sand Gnats 1

The Power scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth off Jack Leathersich. With one out, and a runner at first, Junior Sosa, Leathersich picked Sosa off, but a bad throw in the rundown by Gnats' 1B Brian Harrison sent Sosa to third. The subsequent batter blooped a single into shallow center over the drawn-in infield to give the Power the lead. Leathersich fanned the next two batters. His line: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, o ER, 0 BB, 2 K. He's fanned 21 of the 48 batters to face him (44%).

Albert Cordero's slow start continues. The 22-year old catcher took an 0-for-3 to fall to .105/.205/.132 in his first 11 games. It's 10 games. I'm not worried - yet.

Alex Panteliodis was solid: 6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K. Through 20.1 innings in the SAL the University of Florida product has strikeout/walk ratio of 11/9.
